CANCELLATION POLICY UPDATE! CHECK YOUR EMAILS:

"It has been a very exciting six weeks since we relaunched, and we hope you've been enjoying your MoviePass as much as we've enjoyed creating it! We've received a ton of great customer feedback recently, and we've been taking comments into consideration as we continue to grow and expand. One of the main areas of feedback has been related to our cancellation policy and in an effort to provide a better user experience and a higher level of transparency, we have simplified things for you.

If you decide to cancel MoviePass within your first month of membership, you will be charged a cancellation fee of the difference between your monthly MoviePass rate and the total dollar amount of the movies you saw. If you're paying $30 dollars a month for MoviePass and you saw 5 movies at a cost of $10 each, you would pay a $20 cancellation fee. If your subscription fees are more then the cost of the tickets, you will be credited back the difference.

After your first month of membership, there will be a flat cancellation fee that is based on how long you have been a subscriber. The breakdown is as follows:

If account is cancelled within months 2 or 3, cancellation fees are $75
If account is cancelled within months 4, 5 or 6, cancellation fees are $60
If account is cancelled within months 7, 8 or 9, cancellation fees are $40
If account is cancelled within months 10 or 11, cancellation fees are $20

After your year long commitment, you will be able to cancel your MoviePass account at any time without cancellation fees.

We have a lot of things in store for MoviePass and your feedback has been invaluable. Our full terms and conditions may be viewed here; if you have any questions or feedback about this policy, or anything else MoviePass related, please reach out to our MoviePass Concierge via email at support@moviepass.com, live chat, or phone at (877) 646-2892."

Is that what you signed up for originally?

I recently got charged for my 2nd month and was surprised that the bill is lower than expected. I signed up for it @ $34.99 for the L.A. area and later signed up a seperate account for gf it but that somehow came out to $24.99. I didn't have to employ any tricks to get that; it's just what showed up. I did think of calling them to lower the 1st account to match the other but though it might jinx the 2nd account; so I didn't call. I used the same CC for both accounts and the first account also is getting the $24.99 fee.
That's interesting. $24.99 for the LA area is pretty great.

Of course there won't be a cancellation fee with the gift card.

I was referring to the fact that they changed their cancellation policy to keep all the new people who signed up from canceling. I pay $35 per month and would gladly pay the $20 cancellation fee and pay $5 more a month if I could be committed to their service for only three months instead of an entire year.

To me it's a much better deal since I can have MoviePass only during the awards season and summer months and not during the offseason.

I would cancel if all I had to pay was $20, but $75? No. This is what I meant. And they changed their cancellation policy right before they announced these gift subscriptions too.
I'd spend more on the old one. This policy is less confusing but it might be worse for some/most. It seems hard to think the old policy is cheaper though unless you cancelled early on and/or saw little to no movies. I spent around a little bit over the new policy already.

well seems that the contract end date which use to be yesterday has now been updated to a month from now but I was still charge only my $19.99 which was a relief. I was afraid they might raise the price on me. I'm also happy that it's a flat cancellation fee because my friend and I already decided we are going to stick it out until the end of the contract so we didn't bother worrying about accruing a balance. within our first month we already saw all the movies that are currently out in the theatre lol and with the tickets in our area costing $12 a pop we each have accrued around $200 each. So it looked like we made the right decision because now with the change we'll at most only be charge $75 if we decide to cancel.
