I seriously considered building a low powered server, I say if you have the equipment, build it. It's cheaper than buying this diskless NAS, and will be more powerful. Ideally I'd be buying a super nice NAS, but I just wanted a little extra disk space. Raid 5 is only good if a single hard drive fails. Im not sure on the new stor-centers, but I had one a while back (ix-200 with twin 500gb). Pretty much junk. Worked sometimes, froze up all the time, slow usb external drive, and linux took over with some master access on a couple files that wouldnt let me delete/edit/modify even with the highest admin access I could muster on win 7. Finally dumped the NAS, got a fleabay special desktop and for the same price, I have all the storage I need with an OS (win 7) I completely understand. Sure its bigger, but I got as many bays as I need and its simple to figure out for me.
