1)How do you load pics/music on the iXL? Through the software on a PC or do I copy onto the SD card directly plugged into a pc? If so, to what folder?
Through the software. I'm pretty sure you could go ahead and download the software from Fisher Price (or use Google to find it elsewhere).

2) Just to confirm, it uses a full size SD card, not a microsd?
Yes, standard SD. I bought two cheap 4GB cards from Amazon. You could probably get by with 2GB. If you have a digital camera maybe consider this a reason to upgrade its card and hand the old one down to the iXL.

3) Have you tried the cardboard mod to help hold the SD card in place when the iXL (inevitably) gets dropped?

Yes. I used something like a business card or construction paper. I offset the fold and pushed it in with the fold to the outside to make more of a wedge shape. It works for the most part, but my son has still dislodged it. I'm not surprised these are being discontinued...

I think construction paper is a great suggestion. Sorry to be a pain but any info on how to load pics/music to the SD card for the iXL? Also, can it play movies (avi/mkv)?

Yes to songs and pictures, no to movies.

Thanks for the link and that file! Worked perfectly. I ordered two of the blue models for my 5 and 3 yr olds. I just downloaded the iXL software from the site, ran your file, system updated and I now have all the games! Couldnt have been easier.

Truly speaking I never had an issue with the memory card reset, but as a precautionary measure I have padded it with a piece of folded paper. So I assume it works.
