I'm actually about to buy a Cooler Master because it's quieter than what I have now... a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler, .My wife is about to throw the one PC out the window because the stock fan in it is so loud. I'm awful tempted to get one of their keyboards as well, just hard to justify as I already have at least one decent keyboard with Cherry blue, brown, red and even black. But they do seem to make decent keyboard products. Last edited by TexasFlood; 10-20-2012 at 04:32 PM.. |

![]() Actually the Model F and Model M both use buckling spring switches are are more like each other than any other keyboard. The Model M was a membrane redesign to lower production costs of the capacitive Model F. Many think the Model F has a superior feel, perhaps the best, at least useable on a modern PC. Folks who like Model F probably also like the earlier IBM beam spring keyboards even better but don't think those are useable on modern PCs even with an adapter. If you're home alone, and you're typing on a mechanical keyboard, can anyone else hear it?
What I'm getting at is who cares how darn loud they are - I got my headphones on, playing my game, or listening to my music. I don't care about the sound of my keyboard when I'm the only one in my Den typing away. I just want the keyboard that performs the best - the one that's most repsonsive, the one that's accepting my inputs without doubling up letters, or missing letters, or missing any sort of inputs. Over the years I've tried Microsoft, Dell, HP all of their types, from wired to wireless, from expensive to really, really cheap. And I still haven't found one that I'm really 100% comfortable with all the time. Currently, I'm using an HP wired keyboard that came with my last PC - it meets my needs more than some of the others I have laying around here. But I am interested in trying a mechanical keyboard with Cherry Switches. I've begun researching them and their products. Now to analyze which one will meet my needs and pick one up for myself. Any suggestions for a person who does Video Editing, Photo editing, Writing, and Gaming, all on a relatively state-of-the-art rig? And I don't care about the sound of clickety-clackety keys, I use my Den, and my husband sleeps in the back bedroom (nothing wakes hm, he sleeps with a tremendous snoring problem anyway). Thanks, Korian |

The MX black requires more force, lack a tactile/auditory feedback but has a small hsteresis making such gaming use much easier so popular for gaming use. Cherry MX brown switches required moderate force, have a tactile bump without auditory click with a small hysteresis so a good balance between typing and gaming use. Cherry MX red require less force, have a larger hysteresis but not nearly that of blues, provide no tactile or audio feedback. Some folks like them as they are quiet and light but browns are probably still considered by most to be the best compromise between typing and gaming use. All this discussion is good but you really should try some keyboards with these switches to know what you prefer. Not only to get a feel for the switch behavior but the keyboard construction itself contributes to the feel. How are the switches mounted, how "solid" does it feel, how do the key caps feel, does something resonate in a way that bothers you. If you can't try some out at a local store, seek out some video and audio recordings of the specific keyboard you're considering so you know what it sounds like. Read some reviews to get the impressions of others. Look at forums such as geekhack.org and/or deskthority.net for good info from enthusiasts. Last edited by TexasFlood; 10-21-2012 at 09:05 AM.. |

Keyboard died on me just before a long trip. USB device not recognized by multiple computers and with various cables. Not sure if I will be able to replace it and Cooler Master's support person wasn't sure either. Too late for Newegg to RMA it and besides box is long missing and UPC was used for rebate.
It was a good keyboard though! |
