Put it this way, at least Sauron's eye doesn't explode in a halo explosion special effect or the "true" character of the undead isn't being added to each subsequent release. They're just the ORIGINALS.

Wanting to keep the highest possible resolution forced them to split the film onto two Blu-rays (as stated in the boxset and by Peter Jackson himself.) Since I have a higher quality TV I don't mind a small intermission for superior picture quality. I'm sure that when they move to triple and four layer Blu-rays that can hold double the data that the dual layered ones can, Jackson will re-release single disc versions of the the extended films.

Ha, in the theatre I did stand up like 3 times thinking it was over, by then I just waited for the credits to make sure.

The price is great, and the extendeds are more than I care to sit through... I'm in.

I like having both the theatrical and extended cuts...which one we watch depends on how much time we have and whether we're in the mood to sit through the longer version. And I could give a crap about the special features as we never watch them.
