to anyone skeptical, I have switched from cheap Valvoline that I had from the dealer to this and never looked back. Very smooth, can't describe enough. A nonstop drive from Austin back to Houston and I stop at the red light, smooth like engine is not on. I change mine every 3000 ish miles, you guys might say it's a waste but I do see difference in performance as soon as I switch out with new stuffs. I'm on a Scion TC by the way, 100k now and planning to hit beyond 200k. I'm using the 75w-90 for gear oil too. I'm loyal to this purple stuffs. Viscosity, lubrication, great engineering overall.

How does one just change a filter? Don't you need to get under the car and drain a considerable amount of oil before you can do that anyways? If I'm putting the car on ramps and getting under it, I'm just going to do a full oil change, since it only takes about 5 minutes longer.
Yes, my guess would be he might be one of those gurus who never did it themself and wanna teach how to do it anyways...

Nope, you don't need to drain anything. Just take the filter off (use a drain pan - some oil will come out), put the new filter on, and top off your oil. Simple!

True, it only takes 5 minutes longer to do a full change, but also costs $40 more.

Well, in a typical car, the vast majority of the oil drains back into the oil pan once the engine is shutoff.
The filter is usually above the oil pan so most of the oil will not come out once the filter is unscrewed. Filters have an anti-drain valve to keep some of the oil in the head, but that amount is usually small <10% of the total volume. Filter also has so oil in it. I would say that you'll have to replace ~10% of the oil with every filter change.

So you can change the filter without changing all of the oil. However at this point you have to ask yourself why you're doing it and if you really need to do it.

I need information with oil and transmission fluid. My cousin has a Chrysler 300 5.7 and she told me the dealership charged her almost 80 dollars to change her oil and filter. So, i read the handbook and it says mopar fluids for both. Is this mopar synthetic? Is it just a brand name? Can we buy something at Autozone/pep boys for a DIY project?

Yes, said she needed a special type of oil because of her car. I was like OKKkk... i know the car is atleast 4 years old. I just did a quick look as we drove tonite. I was shocked and she's ready for a transmission fluid change and was dreading the dealer cost. So, i will read the manual spec.again, but mopar (xyz) was stated for each. I know how to change both fluids, if i need 2 help her
