Instead of checking out craigslist, why don't you check out the clearance center at Best Buy? Thanks to a post here (somewhere), I found great discount of discontinued high end AV receivers.The difference between the 2011 models and 2012 is usual so insignificant, not worth paying the extra $200-400 premium. And this is coming from a guy (me) that (used to) always buy the latest and greatest.

Just make sure you do your research again and again before buying.

I have always loved Onkyo as well and have a few of them over the years. However, Apple's Airplay has taken over my life and Onkyo receivers still don't have that capability for some reason. Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer Elite, and Marantz all have that capability.

Hard to suggest a unit for the original query because it depends on what feature is important to him. For general recommendations, I rely on Amazon (and Newegg) reviews. Take every review with a grain of salt.
