anyone know if these speakers (including the center speaker) would be compatible with a wall mount from monoprice [monoprice.com] ?

I have a small apartment so I've always had a Sony soundbar {SS-MCT100) with subwoofer to go with my Bravia XBR4 TV. But I am ready to try the 5.1 thing now to see what the fuss is all about Though the soundbar is average, the subwoofer isnt bad. Could I use the subwoofer that came with the soundbar with these speakers? That would just leave me needing a receiver.

looking at the images, though, you may need to be aware of how the wire attaches to the speaker so you don't trap it with the back plate.

My guess is that you are trading off worse quality speakers for the addition of a subwoofer. As you can see above, most people getting these also have a separate sub.

If anyone in Houston is interested in an unopened set with or without a Pioneer SW-8 subwoofer, there is a set on Craigslist that is unopened for a slight discount from this price.

how HT-S5400 - 7.1-Channel Home Theater Package ONKYO set compares to this in term of sound?
I am new to HT and don't think I can pull all separate deals together like speakers + sub + Rcvr.
As a SDer, dont want to compromise much on sound as well

According to online figures, it uses the same 1/4" - 20 threaded mounts as my Energy CB-5. So...

Short answer: Yes

Long Answer:
Yes, the takes are only ~3 lbs so it should be fine. Do note that these mounts are quite terrible; my CB-5s (the Takes' big brother) are 6-7lbs, way short of the 3lb limit and the hinge no longer works because it's "too heavy". It's being propped up by some cut up chopsticks.

Do I buy to buy some banana plug to go with the wires? Does a subwoofer use the same kind of wire/ plugs or the sub uses different wires to connect to the receiver? thanks a lot in advance. It will be great if I can be provided with some links to good quality products most of your experts use

Had these paired with an Energy 10" subwoofer for about a decade now. Excellent choice for introductory Home Theater. After having bought two Home Theater in a Box solutions (one from Sony, and another I don't remember) and eventually finding them wanting (cheap speakers failing, etc.) these sounded very good and are attractive, compact and relatively inexpensive. I used speaker wire that you can buy pretty much anywhere, and you can always get banana plugs from someplace cheap like Monoprice (see video at link for basics):
