First, each key is actually its own part rather than the keyboard being done in sections. This means that if an individual key were to fail, you could replace JUST that key rather than needing a whole new keyboard. Second, rubber dome keyboards "wear" over time. The keys become less responsive over time and don't bounce back quickly. Mechanical keyboards switches last longer and more more likely to just "fail" rather than wear out. Third, Rubber dome keyboards actually have to me made in a clean room because if dirt gets inside of the keyboard it will fail. Mechanical keyboards are much more robust. Fourth, Key rollover. Because rubber dome keyboards are done is sections sometimes there are key combinations that won't work. A prime common example is ctrl + w + r, like if you were couching in a first person shooter, walking forward and needed to reload. A mechanical keyboard will accept all the key presses, rubber dome with not. Fifth, typing quality. For rubber dome keyboards key presses are registered at the bottom of the press, where on mechanical the presses are registered about 1/2 way down. The reason this matters is that with a rubber dome keyboard you have to bottom out the key in order to type. This causes you to use more force to type than is actually needed and will eventually cause fatigue. Mechanical keyboards register the presses much sooner, so once you actually get used to it you don't need to bottom out the keys anymore. Since you can type using less pressure you can normally type faster, more accurately, and with less fatigue on a mechanical board. Sixth, Dat sound. The sound of a mechanical keyboard can actually be soothing to some people, others it might bother the crap out of. I have the storm quickfire rapid. After using many rubber dome keyboards (that ranged in price from $5 to $100 "gaming") I will never go back to another rubber dome. When I do have to type on one it now feels like some foreign object. Highly recommend |

YES I KNOW IT WAS DELIVERED--TO THE WRONG ADDRESS!!! ON TRAC at least had the decency to admit that it was lost and said I should let OFFICEMAX know and they would re-ship and claim from ON TRAC. All-in-all, 2+ weeks, 8 phone calls, and they ended up refunding my money. HOW SOMEONE CAN RUN A BUSINESS LIKE THIS, I WILL NEVER KNOW. BTW, they have NO online tracking system--i.e., no way to find out what your shipping tracking number is when you order something. Hahahahahaha, I should have cancelled the order right away when I saw this--what are we, back in the 90's? |
