Is the Acronis software ONLY for OCZ or will it work on any brand SSD/HDD/etc ?

Sounds like a good deal. I am not aware of other cheaper alternatives that get things done. Since, I most probably use this set only once.

Thanks, do you guys mean it'll work with ANY brand/type drive from/to ANY brand/type drive? EXAMPLE: I can use the WD edition of Acronis with ANY drive as long as one of them is a WD drive. I want to use the Acronis with say from a Seagate HDD to a Crucial M4.
Too bad this doesn't come with the PLUS pack where you can migrate your apps and data to a different hardware.

It will work with any hard drive or solid state drive. Any brand, any size, anything. For your example, you can use the WD edition of Acronis on any drive, regardless of if it's a WD drive or not.

That said, I was surprised that it worked with a non-OCZ SSD. That does suggest it may work with any SSD/HDD combination. Suggestions aren't promises, however.

Worst case, you get a nifty universal upgrade kit and use one of the free softwares to transfer your image.

There are other ways of doing this...depending on whether you are doing a laptop or desktop.

If you have a desktop, simply plug in your SSD with the SATA cable that came with it, and you can get mirror imaging software from a major hard drive manufacturer (Seagate for example) for free. The 2.5 -> 3.5" mount you can buy for ~$6 on NewEgg.

If you have a laptop and you need to mirror prior, you can get a sata to usb cable via a kit like this [overstock.com]and also use free software to mirror it. Then swap after.

It's not a bad price, but I just wanted to point out there are other ways.

The cheaper way would be less than $3 buying the 2.5"->3.5" bracket and one SATA cable from ebay and use freesoftware to clone the content of the original drive to the SSD while both drives are connected to the SATA controller (instead of USB).

With laptop a SATA-USB enclosure is less than $4 on ebay.

I'd prefer to do a fresh OS / driver / software install on the SSD anyway and move personal data over from the old drive.

Alternatively, you can use PartedMagic if you're computer-savvy.

It'll likely work. Western Digital's version of acronis works with any drive. I've used it to make images of my SSD.
