As we had a conversation about DRM, this might be helpful to others in deciding whether to make a purchase:
The consensus is that Bioshock 1 doesn't use SecureRom. Bioshock 2 has SecuRom and GFWL, but it is not something you have to dl and update manually. Steam does that for you. If the DRM are ever removed from Bioshock 2, Steam would probably patch those out as it has other games. That is the nice thing with steam, it downloads everything you need to get started and updates you constantly.
In addition, the SecuRom in Bioshock 2 has been nerfed to allow unlimited activations. The real limitation is the Legacy GFWL DRM in Bioshock 2, which limits your activations to 15. After that, you would have to call Redmond or Amazon to get another key. Amazon promises to provide as many keys as you may need if you run into activation limits and Microsoft promises only 1 with proof of purchase. This is a major reason why many of us prefer Amazon, if all else including price and Steam access are equal, because Amazon promises unlimited keys if we run into activation limits in the future so you get an added feeling of security.
Here is a link to a post about DRM with Steam games. I find it very useful and recommend bookmarking it as the author updates the page frequently and it is a useful resource for making digital download purchases:
TL;DR: Don't worry about DRM for these titles unless you are planning on activating Bioshock 2 more than 15 times. In that case, you may have to call Redmond or Amazon for additional key(s).
