Doesn't Apple regularly liquidate their stuff by marking them as 'Refurbished'? If so, then this may be the way they are getting rid of the iPad 3 inventory and won't sell them again as new.

Cheaper than the iPad 2 new. I'm surprised they didn't phase out the iPad 2 and replace it with the 3rd generation.

No no. You are not allowed to refer to it as iPad 4 or iPad 3 according to Apple.

And yes I was talking about the (New) New iPad that was just announced today. Not the (Old) New iPad that is ancient technology and was launched 6 months ago.

Besides, if you buy the (Old) New iPad you'll have a completely different of accessories and cables which are now outdated, and if you buy the iPhone 5, new iPod Touch, or new iPod Nano, you'll have to use or buy a whole new set of accessories and adapters.

Is that really worth the $100 savings?

That isn't what apple is doing though, unfortunately, the 3rd gen ipad is going while the 2nd gen is staying at $399.

Personally, having both a 3rd gen and 2nd gen, I'd save a boatload of money and just snag a refurbed 2nd gen for $299 when they are available.

I disagree with you. The specs are still better on the NEW iPad than the iPad mini. Most people already got many accessories with the old dock pin so they can continue to enjoy their items for at least another 3 years.(Apple products usually last 3-5 years at least in my experience with them) Other than the dock connector this refurbed 3rd gene tablet is a better buy than the just released one, especially if you already invested in 30 pin dock accessories.
Also these refurbished tablets are new that's how Apple usually blows out there stock of discontinued items.

Yeah I would just get the new one. The faster cpu is worth it in conjunction with Retina screen. Then you get faster wi-fi - a small bonus, but a bonus.

And I believe it has a larger charger so it charges faster like the Ipad 2.

Useless Apple TV? I beg to differ. Wirelessly mirroring in HD from any tablet connected to the same network from anywhere in your home is quite extraordinary. Cables are completely obsolete.
