There was a previous thread on this card that had this same offer buried in the replies. I signed up for it and my first statement hasn't closed, so I don't have the points yet, but the free night certificate was in my rewards account before I even got the card, and the $75 credit showed up less than a week after my first purchase cleared, before the statement closing date.

Agreed. This is not an offer. It's been like this for awhile. If you plan on staying at the Marriott I would sign up for the platinum challenge and wait for a better deal on this card.The 75 credit doesn't make it worthwhile opening up a new line of credit IMO.

Sounds really tempting, still waiting on BOA to give me my $400.
Would love to do this to stay in some hotels instead of couches over the holidays.

Probably not. You only have 90 days to call them.. But heck you may want to try. At worst, they'll just say no.

Practically, any hotel you'd really want to stay at is at least 25k points/night. For example, I've stayed in Providence, RI, Boston, MA and Orlando, FL on points, all at 30k points/night. The Providence hotel was a courtyard (and nothing ritzy), the Boston was an extension stay at a conference (Marriott brand) and Orlando was a Fairfield Inn I believe. In any case, none were particularly fancy or in the center of a city (desirable location). 50k points doesn't really go far.

I had Gold status with Marriott after staying for nearly a month in various hotels of theirs last year and accumulated points. Honestly the best way to get points is to get into platinum or gold status - this REALLY accelerates points via bonuses. Otherwise I don't see this CC really providing a lot of benefit.

1 free night per year - let's say that's $80-$120 of value (20k points)
1 night credit toward elite status for every $3k spent (in other CC's about $30 in value)
15 nights credit toward elite status per year (difficult to quantify value)
5 points/$spent @ marriott, 2 pts dining/airline/rental and 1 pt everything else.

note that you can buy points, this gives us an estimate of their value: 20k points = $250 or 1.25 cents per point.

Was travelling for business for the past 4 years, I hit diamond Hilton and platinum Marriot very fast... however for some reason, I find Starwood properties for leisure to be better than the other two. Dont get me wring, I like the Hilton and Marriots and I have credit cards for both, but for leisure, I prefer Starwood. What do you guys think?

Dont want to fall off topic, this isnt a bad deal. The initial deal I had was just 50K and 1yr waived fee.

There were also deals that gave 30,000 points for the AMEX SPG Card and if you applied for the AMEX SPG Business Card, you get another 30,000.
For Hilton there were a deal where you can get 50,000 points for the AMEX Hilton Card and another 40,000 points for the AMEX Hilton Surpass card.

I literally signed up and got accepted yesterday from another link...I'm wondering the same thing. No $75 credit.

Right on all points except one.
I don't know why it didn't happen for you but usually when you apply for the challenge you are given Platinum status right away. So while you're doing the challenge you ALREADY have Platinum Status.
Then if you don't complete the challenge, then you go back to what you had. Or if you complete it, you continue on with Platinum.

Some deals are better than others, and the quality of individual deals varies over time. Free is free. We stayed at Hilton Homewood Suites in a nice 1BR suite with kitchen and two TV's Saturday night. The place had a nice pool and hot tub room, exercise room, and complimentary full breakfast. Thanks to my venture into Citi/Hilton Honors, it was free. Free is my favorite word.

P.S. I will close this Chase account as soon as my Marriot points are posted. Good, bad, or ugly, that is what I always do. The only exception to-date is the dang Spirit Airlines card, where you have to keep the card and use it regularly to qualify for the best deals and keep from losing your points. In retrospect, I would NOT pursue that one again...
