Logitech VIP Store - Refurb Harmony 900 - 139.99 or One - 99.99 w/FREE shipping

Can anyone highlight the differences between the 900 and the 890? I am replacing my 890 with this, as it's had some problems programming and other minor issues.

I own both - what would you like to know? Obviously the main difference is the layout of the remote. I can honestly say I like the layout of the 890 - but the One/900 layout is also good - I think I just need to get used to it and I will like it a lot once that happens. I definitely like the way the numbers are laid out as it makes it a lot easier to enter numbers - at times on the 890, I have mashed the buttons and hit 4 numbers.

In terms of programming - with the 900 you only have to hook the remote up to the computer. The RF receiver is programmed by the remote wirelessly, it is really cool and a lot more convenient. You can also make some programming changes on the remote itself without needing a computer - things such as whether the device is controlled by the RF receiver or by IR on the remote is all done on the remote.

I also find the 900 to be more reliable in terms of me pressing buttons and my Directv receiver getting it (I have an HR24).

The Mini IR blasters that come with the 900 are different than in the 890. The 890 comes with little IR blasters that you can stick to your devices individually. It would work regardless of whether you have your equipment in a cabinet or just have it out of your line of sight. The 900's mini IR blasters are more intended to sit in a cabinet or something and hit multiple devices. They do a multidirectional blast, but it isn't the ideal solution for me. You also only get 2 of them, and the RF receiver only has 2 plugs instead of the 890's 4. Unfortunately the 890's RF receiver is not compatible with the 900. (Also note that Z-wave is not compatible with the 900).

You can also re-use the little IR blasters that come with your 890 if you buy a Mono 2.5mm to 3.5mm headphone jack converter ( like this: http://www.monoprice.com/products...1&format=2 ) and if you need to use more than 2 of them you can get a splitter to do it (like this one: http://www.monoprice.com/products...1&format=2 ).

The one drawback (other than the lack of Z-wave) of the 900 is the lack of sequences. Not everyone used them, but if you did - then you will miss it on the 900. Sequences in Harmony speak is the ability to program the remote to perform up to 5 different commands when you press a single button. For example, on Directv, turning on closed captioning involes you pressing the Yellow button, the right arrow 2 times, down once and then Select. You can't do this with the 900. Activities and stuff like that still work just like on the 890, but not sequences.

Last thing is that you will have to setup a new Harmony account for the 900 - for whatever reason, any programming you've done with other remotes such as the 880, 890, One, etc will not carry over like they normally would with other Harmony models. So you need to re-do everything from scratch.

Overall - I'm still happy with the 900. It isn't perfect but the RF works great for me (better than the 890 imho) and I don't use sequences or Z-wave.

thanks. entered the backdoor first time around and snagged a 900 and a One, plus the PS3 adapter at really good prices. only one per customer, but i needed a third remote. went back today via the front door -- using the account details created previously -- and was able to snage a second 900. thanks and repped.

WOW just WOW ! got the remote today (surprising UPS is out delivering in the storm..) 900 it looks like it went thru hell and back the cradle is even worst, the blaster is missing so are all the other cables. No manual no CD no nothing ! This is great refurbished product ! I tought Logitech supposed to be much better then this

Mine came in the original box. It was obviously opened but everything was there. Basically looks like a returned product.

You should call Logitech support.

Exactly the opposite experience, very poor condition and hell of scratches. The battery was in the remote and bulging, which I know is the sign of severe use and close to dying (experience with harmony one and 880, 700). No Manual, no CD, No blaster wires or unit.

Will call customer service tomorrow for an exchange or return.

Sorry to hear some people got crappy refurbs. I didn't get mine yesterday because of the storm - should arrive today or tomorrow.

Just an update - Logitech said they can't offer refunds for the difference on the 10% coupon and you need to return / re-buy the item. But Logitech will pay shipping both ways - so I'm going to return mine which should be arriving today and re-buy it.

Stupid on Logitech's part to waste money on shipping both ways - but that is what they want to do!

After about a month with my refurb (perfect condition) Harmony One, I'm a huge fan. Replaced the remotes for my TV, cable box, soundbar, DVD player, and Roku. Set-up is quick and fairly intuitive.

Just bought another Harmony One for my dad for xmas.

Request for a 10% VIP code if you have one and won't use it!

just got my remote today.. get this error message when setting up:

This product was previously identified as defective and replaced under warranty. It has been disabled and therefore you will not be able to continue setting up or using this remote.

If you have received a replacement remote please confirm it is connected and try again.

Can't wait to get a reply back from customer service.

Another disappointing experience with a Logitech product.
