Your going to want to check the LOT Number and where it was made Russia vs Ukraine. There was a batch of the Ukraine stuff that WAS corrosive, Wolf took it back and replaced it if you said something. This may be some of that batch ....

Really tempted to do this, but some folks REALLY don't like it. My gunsmith told me not to use Russian ammo in my AR, but all of the forums are saying it only gets a bad wrap because it can't be reloaded. That means gun ranges hate it b/c they can't reload or resell it. And if you're cleaning your weapons like you're suppose to it should have any effect on the weapon. Decisions....decisions....

Your gunsmith is correct. I'm not saying it won't work because sometimes it does.. that doesn't mean it's a healthy diet for your AR.

Personally I leave the Russian ammo to Russian guns like my AK74, 47s, Mosins, and Dragunov PSL. You don't want to be using this russian surplus ammo in your nice 1200-2k+ ARs on a regular bases. Use it in for the guns they were intended for: Russian military surplus guns. The exception for this type of ammo would probably be if I owned something like the C93 or the Galil rifle. Then I would be fine feeding it this stuff.

Thanks. I see they have the PMC for around $170/500 rounds. I just paid $400 yesterday for 1000 rounds of federal. I'll stick to the cleaner stuff.

Hmmm, right now, and pretty much forever, I have been an LC guy (M193, M855, with some M196 sprinkled in for fun if it isn't dry outside ), but I only have maybe 8000 rds left, and I haven't bought in a while (since it was purchasable for ~.30/rd). I had a bunch of backorders that all got cancelled in the last month (about 5k rds worth) after being that way for months(up to a year in some cases) at a good price, and of course a few days later that same ammo was in stock at the same place wiht the same SKU for .40/rd or more per 1000. I have been stocking up for a while after learning my lesson in 08, and this time, I am not sure it matters who wins, to the point where this doesn't sound like a bad price/idea unless I win the lottery .

I have also only used the steel cased imported stuff in my Russian calibers with no major issues, but for this stuff $200/1000 is a heck of a lot cheaper than $400/1000 or more, and for practice... every time I pull the trigger I think "there goes .40, there goes .40".

I haven't had any issues with the steel cased stuff in my russian caliber firearms, but then I also never have used Wolf or the other brands that are supposedly from the same place(Tula, etc.), vs. Brown bear (which I have read is the best of the cheap, and I am pretty happy acuracy wise, around 1-1.5 MOA @ 100 yds).

I have actually never even used .223 vs. 5.56NATO. Anyone here who practices a lot/competes that can say how big of a difference it is between "A" LC M193 and this wolf .223 at 100, 200, and 300 yds? Big difference, i.e. enough that practicing with wolf with worthless because you get 3 times the MOA at 200 yds for example?

LC 5.56NATO has actually far surpassed the cost of my shooting my 5.7x28mm's which I thought would NEVER happen (but I figured that 5.7 would go UP, not down, that's what I get for thinking ).

i've been shooting this stuff for yrs and as mentioned, clean your gun after shooting and you'll be fine.

As far as ARs go there a couple issues with the ammo:

It may be somewhat dirtier, which is not a huge deal.

Steel cases cause more extractor wear. Its a cheap part and nothing for a lot of lot of people to punch out and replace, but most people do not work on their ARs at all.

Ammo is underpowered, it is to min 223 spec, pressure not to 5.56 spec. If your AR is setup to run perfect (gas system wise) on 5.56 then that means in reality that this ammo should jam or not cycle sometimes. This not an issue with most AR-15s, because most are overgassed, but if you have premium build that is running on the edge (meaning a small/modest sized gas port) and probably a H1-H3 buffer then you may not be able to cycle the ammo, or may have to step down to a carbine buffer.

Do relate this to two of my builds, my Lilja 16" midlength barrel will run 5.56spec ammo with a H3 buffer and wolf-type 223 on a carbine buffer. My Daniel Defense 10.5" carbine barrel will run 5.56 with a H1 buffer and will not cycle wolf, even with a carbine buffer.

Ammo is still perfectly suitable for blinking ammo in most ARs out there, but there are some drawbacks.

Wolf doesn't feed through my Magpul mag's, turn around and put brass in them and all is well. Haven't had time to see if its a under pressure issue or not.

It does say ****Wolf® .223 Remington® Hollow Point,***** but if you look when you order it says Wolf® .223 55 Gr. FMJBT So your NOT getting hollow point

it's NOT harder on the extractor...go show me ONE that was "worn out" due to steel cased ammo! Barf15 started the BS and are also the idiots that keep it going. Even corrosive ammo is not a problem at all...spray some windex down the barrel after you're done shooting...or use a 90/10 water and ballistol mix and the salts will be taken care of.

That is not true at all. It does not always go bang and does not always function for it's intended purpose in some AR's and Bolt action rifles I've used. I've used Wolf Silver and Brown Bear 308 HP in both a Remington 700 and Browning bolt action rifles, and a PTR91.. absolutely refused to work FTF, FTE every time.. Switched to American Eagles 308 and work flawlessly in all three. These rifles along with many, but not all AR15s have issues. So yes it works well for some.. please don't give incorrect information telling people itll go bang and function every-time.. because it won't.

BTW I have nothing against Russian surplus ammo.. I own thousands of rounds. Russian ammo is just not as dependable in non Russian rifles. Fact.

I have shot almost 2000 rounds of this through my mini 14 and never had a miss fire or feeding problem. I clean my guns after every outing and have not noticed any additional wear and tear. I am not an expert, but for me, the price is right and I haven't had any problems... yet...
