Again, not saying everyone has to like it. Just saying that people seem to be implying that there is a failing of usability, when virtually all of the use cases from Windows 7 are highly similar with Windows 8.

With Windows 7, you called up the start menu by clicking in the lower left corner, or by hitting the windows key. Both of those still apply. In Windows 8, you can also use the Charms menu, but you don't have to.

With Windows 7, to run the calc app, you could click start, click run, and type calc, and hit enter. Or you could hit start and just begin typing calc, and hit enter. Or you could press Windows-R, type calc, and hit enter. Or you could click on the application's icon in the start menu. All of these things still apply. In Windows 8, you can also search using the charms menu, but you don't have to.

I purchased my Windows 8 Pro and Media Upgrade in January. I purchased a new Dell XPS on the Presidents Day Sale and received it Wednesday. Since this had Windows 8 only, I thought I'd try to use the Windows 8 Pro and Media Upgrade keys to try and upgrade my current system. I entered the WIndows 8 Pro and I was surprised that it installed the program. After that, it asked me to activate Windows 8 but I did not have the activation key. This was last night. I woke up today and turned on my pc and it went straight to the Activate Windows screen (this is also available on the activation screen on the computer). I clicked on a link to activate by phone. It gave me a sequence of numbers that I entered. Once successfully entered, it gave me back a code which then activated Windows 8 Pro.

In short, I was able to purchase 1 copy of Windows 8 Pro and install it on 2 computers. The same goes for Media Center Pack. YMMV but it sure worked for me.

how soon do i need to install the download? can I save the file and serial number till say a year later when the 1st Service Pack released? cause i see no need to convert to win8 for now, but maybe in the future.

The license key does not expire, only the coupon does. Install when ever you want, even on a different machine.

The promo codes ?
Do you just enter it and purchase the upgrade for $15 bucks ? Also is it the standard or Pro ?
