I have a PC with a Windows 7 installation that's considered "not genuine". I had an issue where someone sold me a key that they said was legit, but MS shut it down about a year later.
Anyhow, will this install over the top and turn my install into a "genuine" copy of Windows 8? I ran the upgrade advisor and it went through the whole check, allowed me to purchased and started downloading, then started preparing files. I canceled it so that I can back up first, but doesn't anyone know if it will work? |

Great deal, doesn't really prove you bought your system during reduced upgrade price time. I don't see whats stopping anybody from using this to install over a genuine Windows 7 installation. I ran the upgrade advisor only to get a key. When I'm ready to upgrade I'll download an iso and burn it. I have a proof of purchase with an order # if it doesn't activate I can phone Microsoft.
I've done the same thing with Windows 7 and Office 2010 (bought the key for a download and then used an iso burnt onto a DVD instead of the web installer) and both times it activated no problem. |
