Core i5 uses Hyper-Threading to make a dual-core CPU act like a four-core one, but if you have a Core i5 processor with four true cores, it won't have Hyper-Threading. For the time being, Core i5 tops out at handling 4 streams, using four real cores or two cores with Hyper-Threading

Will Sony do a trade-in (for cash) on a laptop with a broken or missing LCD? I have an old HP in this condition but everything else works (i.e. you can plug an external monitor into the VGA port and it works normally)

Do the people there care about the amount of ram in the laptop? Will they offer more if I traded in a laptop with 2gb modules vs one with the same specs except with 4gb?

Well, I had already sent my netbook but they only gave me 10 days to send it.

Don't mistake how long that prepaid label is good for with how long you have to send the laptop in.

Nothing basic about it. Your quote mentioned quad core i5s There are no quad core mobile i5s. On a laptop a duo core i5 hyperthreads just as well as a duo core i7. This is a laptop thread. Don't confuse the desktop line with the mobile line. What happens on the desktop side should and has no bearing on how Sony values laptops with mobile CPUs.



I striped mine down and put a 256MB module in. Yes, it takes about 15 mins to boot but I don't care.

There are still quad core i7s. Even if they both have HT on the mobile side, i7s are usually run at a higher clock speed and have more l3 cache than the i5 line.
