Deal Details

Just found out that Sony USA is offering double the value for its Trade-in and Recycling Program. Helpful especially for those of us thinking of trading in an old laptop (several brands are available for trading in but I didn't find Asus among them) for a new and shiny Vaio.

http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/...Id=tradeup

Is it possible to score a 1st gen i5 for less than $200 to use as a trade in? Hehe. Smilie

I plug these into the drop down lists:

Intel i5
2.26 GHz
Gateway/Acer
Is Hard Drive present? Y
Is the pc fully functional? Y
Is the computer in good physical condition? Y
Is Operating Software Restore Disc Included? N (usually on the hard drive)
Do you have the power cord? Y

And I get an end value of $336, not too shabby at all, especially if 1st gen i5's can be had for $200 or so.

Updating it to an i7, 2.66 GHz (just guessing if there is such a speed), with all else being equal, I get a $468 trade in value. Smilie

-----
I found out after posting that the Core 2 Duo trade ins are the best bang for the buck, especially when they are selling for $100-150 on Kijiji or CL and can fetch almost $300 in trade in value. Smilie

Sony B&M Store is giving away 2 free movie tickets to Skyfall when you take a 5 min demo of their new 84" 4k TV in store.
They give out vouchers for Hollywood movie money which you redeem online for Skyfall tickets.
Got mine over the weekend.

Didn't see it posted anywhere in the store. I came to know about it during a commercial that comes before they screen a movie at Edwards theaters.

Offer valid while supplies last.
Limited 2 tickets per group.

The best link I could find about information regarding this offer is here [sony.com]

Catch a Breathtaking Double Feature
Date: October 15 thru November 12

Visit the Sony store to catch this year's must-sees. Ask a sales associate to give you a demo of the brand new 84" 4K TV, Sony's largest and highest resolution TV ever. Once you've seen our groundbreaking television, you will receive two James Bond Hollywood Movie Money® codes with instructions to print your Skyfall tickets at home.

I'm guessing the offer is valid only at those stores that carry the 84" 4K TV

Here are the locations that carry it.

Exclusively at select Sony Stores:
Los Angeles, CA 90067
Costa Mesa, CA 92626
San Diego, CA 92108
Palo Alto, CA 94304
Las Vegas, NV 89109
Houston, TX 77056
New York, NY 10022
Garden City, NY 11530

Enjoy the show. nod

I have a Core 2 duo Sony BZ series laptop (Bought for 1000). Sony is giving me 286 for it. I have lost the enter key but the key still works. Its just that you dont have the key you need to press the base.
Will they accept it as fine?

The trade in value / amount can only be used for sony vaio laptops or for any other products from their sony site? Confused

I am asking this since I see this sentence below the trade-in value estimate "Value shown is double the actual trade value. Use this double credit towards a new Sony VAIO PC"

I'll let you know by the end of today I have a sony store near me, I called and they said I can bring the laptop in....

we'll see how well it goes. got to wipe my HDD and put ubuntu on there. hopefully I can do it in time, they close at 9 and I won't get home till 6, and then i still have to do all the wiping, taking out rams and stuff (yeah ddr 2 rams go for quite a bit on ebay lol).

For a Vaio Z with blu-ray drive and a 2.6Ghz Core 2 Duo, they are giving $346.

They can go to hell for that.

Consider what your laptop is actually valued at NOW. Core 2 Duo was 2006/07 technology. Physical media is on its last legs and discs are nowhere to be found on ultrabooks.

just came back from the store. If you bring it to the store, they're giving the voucher right away after they look at the machine. I have to see if i can use the voucher online, the store has very limited choices, the lowest price was like 800 bucks.

They do not allow you to put it toward anything else but a computer (looks like desktop is a go to, not just laptop).

Sony laptops are great. I have one of the 1st core i3 laptops. I've only had to replace the trackpad, the trackpad button, the power supply (twice) the battery and the power jack, but then it's 2 years old, ya know, like ancient. After all the repairs, it does still work, but it's been a PITA. $900 new, trade in $250. Could be worse. I'm saving for a Mac though, tired of flimsy junk.

Is the page temporarily down? Or is it working for others?
No sales tax is b.s. My f'ing property tax is now $250 a month. My state income tax is 10%. Good thing it rains so much, or I'd move. Smilie

dang man, that's not a great laptop lol. I'm using things from 4 years ago, never have to replace anything, everything still works. But i mostly use business class notebook (mid-high range)... they tend to be a little more robust. They are really design to take a hit.

Yeah, I was being a little sarcastic but truth be told the thing's been dropped several times by kids rough-housing. HD must have a "drop sensor". At least all the problems have been repairable. The Core i3 with a dedicated nvidia GPU was super fast too, at least for me. But I've never seen a laptop designed to truly take a hit except toughbooks.

thinking of donating 3X more so i can hit 1k, and grab something haha. I think it costs me about 500 bucks for 5 notebook, they're all core 2 duo so it's really old stuff.
