TD has a free student checking though, and as a minor they need the parent on the acct so that might work for you.? Just dont order the checks

Fidelity, just about any credit union

ING Direct and maybe get a referral bonus which adds money. You don't really need a checking account so suggest ING as you will collect a little interest on the money before it is collected.

+1 for BoA if you want an online account only. Too busy in their actual brick & mortars so online is quick, easy, and convenient for most locations.

Never understood how people can use an online company for their primary checking account. I understand savings where you won't touch it/have much activity, but a checking account at a bank that has locations on every corner is much more convenient (Bofa, Chase, Wells, Citi etc)

I have checking account at BOFA and Chase, but use Alliant Credit Union as my primary. It just earns ~0.75% interest compared to the other two. and Alliant is very good as a hub account too. Very easy to transfer money from/to other bank accounts.So just transfer money to other accounts to keep them active and for emergency funds

TD Bank has a checking account type where the minimum balance is $100 to not get charged any fees. I just switched over to TD Bank because my credit union switched their account types and rules to not get charged fees ... now I need to have at least two of the following criteria met to not get charged fees: have a minimum of 1,000 in my account, 10 ATM transactions per month, 5 billpay transactions per month and direct deposit. Two of those criteria have to be met in order to not get charged monthly fees so I just switched to TD bank where all I need is $100 in my account to not get charged fees.

Before my credit union I had an account with Bank of America for several years but I left them when I saw their stock hovering around $4-$5 I left them for a local credit union. The credit union had better rates on loans and I could use any presto atm without getting charged atm fees. Now though the credit union changed their account types so I cant use presto atms anymore, only the credit unions atms which only exist where they have a branch. So now im with TD Bank which seems to be the best out of the bunch that I have to choose from.

I have an online checking and B&M account.
I use my B&M in the rare circumstances I receive a check (even though I can mail it to my online). And I require a notary last year so I walked into my branch.
Everythign else is electronic and done from home. If you have direct deposit there isn't much difference as my online accuont allows free ATM withdraws (via AllPoint) anywhere in the USA via a drug store, walmart, target, etc.

Around Maryland, M&T has a free checking account. I don't use it personally though.

ibankbonus.com offers huge lists of bank sign-up bonuses, mostly local ones. Although, some bonuses were expired, but not labelled as "expired", when I checked the site last time. Make sure that you confirm with the bank that the bonus is active before you apply.
