It came in a huge box and inside was the mixer in retail packaging. The only thing that would indicate it's a refurb was in the instruction manual, where over the standard warranty they put a large sticker indicating refurb with the more limited six-month warranty. Other than that the packaging all looked new.
Thanks. I want to get two of them for Xmas gifts and don't want to look like a cheap a$$hole Cool

I ordered one of these in Empire Red last week using this coupon code - the total was $160.99, plus tax, plus two dollar shipping. I figured for this price it would be great for holiday baking.

It arrived in two days, which surprised me given how inexpensive the shipping was. It works great, looks brand new, and still has a six-month warranty. It's definitely worth it.

Did it come in retail packaging? Or was it just boxed up in regular cardboard?
also interested in what the packaging is like

lol - no, you won't. And the mixer is beautiful, the finish on it is perfect. I was expecting a chip or a scratch and it really looks flawless. I liked the fact that it was professionally refurbished by KitchenAid, as they know the product and it isn't some guy in his basement 'refurbishing' it for eBay sales.

got the pro 5 qt heavy duty for a hair over $150 shipped. oddly they charged tax where it was shipping not where it was billed. saved a few bucks!

That's always been case whenever I buy and ship gifts..... I know since I shop Amazon and send to NY where there's a warehouse... I get slammed for NY tax.

It really is a big savings. Amazon wants $349 for this same mixer new - I saved almost $200 on it.

Gah, $12 in tax for Florida! $175 is somewhat different than $163... seems not so good now.

After extensive chatting with the a sales rep, I am in for 1 Artesian! I am new to cooking so this was a great deal for me Smilie If I jack it up, Its not a $400 mistake Smilie

I also looked into the pro since it was larger AND cheaper. The sales lady said that she had found it difficult to make smaller batches with the pro series. She also said that with the pro, since the head lifts and doesn't tilt, you have to sit you attachment in the batter, remover the bowl and then scrape your attachment. Whereas the Artesian's head tilt allows the batter to drip off independently while you are doing other things in the kitchen Smilie
I second the sales lady... When I finally bit the bullet and bought my kitchen aid, I figured I wanted the best, so went for the pro 600... boy do I regret it. It's really bad at small batches, or even mixing the early ingredients on larger recipes... it just doesn't get close enough to the bottom... maybe with that scraper attachment they make now... but not with the included ones... plus it's harder to add ingredients with the drop-bowl type than with the tilt-head type.

Unless you consistently make very large batches, or have another mixer (or hand mixer) for smaller batches, I recommend the non-pro version...

I just checked to verify the Artisan has nylon gear while Pro (and Accolade) has metal gear.

I guess that makes my 2 cents less useful... but still, there it is. :-)

According to the fine print on the MIRs. They are "not valid for refurbished or previously sold models."
