Freedom account got closed

Call CHASE and talk to them. I've always had a good experience with banks if I'm calm, understanding, and try to talk to them.

Typically though, a bank will never close an account unless something fraudulent or illegal occurs. Another way to get your account disabled is if they sent debt collectors and you guys avoided them.

If you guys were in good standing and nothing illegal occurred, then it was likely just a misunderstanding and you can re-activate everything. If the account was in bad standing, the rewards are going to be cannibalized.

It's like if you owed a mob boss $20,000. If you can't pay in the end, they break your legs and call it even.

Edit: Forgot to mention they will close if someone stole your identity too.

Were you moving Ultimate Rewards points back and forth between accounts? There have been a lot of people getting their cards closed recently as a result of that.

This is somewhat known to happen. Depending on why they closed it they may or may not allow you access to the UR points. I do totally agree though that it sucks...

No..Never even used UR points before nor moved the points between accounts. It has been collecting there for quite sometimes. So the points are gone if the account is closed then? Nobody got the money back?

It depends really. I know in many cases if an account is closed whatever UR points are in the account are effectively lost. They can try and call and see why the accounts were closed. They may even reopen them if they can give a good enough reason.

If they weren't doing anything fraudulent, or aren't habitual CCard churners, Chase may let your parents redeem their points for something.

No one here can really say what will happen, just that unfortunately this isn't the first time we've heard of this.

In this particular post it gives instructions on how to try and get your points if Chase flat out won't give them back to them. It looks to have worked for some while not worked for others.

First thing however is to have your parents call and see if they can get their account reinstated, if they can't see if they can get their points. If they have a CSR that just says no, have them hang up and call back and try again. Then if nothing I'd file a complaint through the above link.

Also, just to make sure, have them log in through www.ultimaterewards.com and see if they can access their points. If they can I'd suggest redeeming immediately. I am not sure if you tried that route or just through the regular www.chase.com

I hate to break this to you but everything you stated is false and clearly you dont know the tactics for Chase. I do and you sir are wrong. When he calls they will tell him to get lost and pound sand. He can call the exec offices and they will state the same.

they closed my mother's card too because it was "inactive" for too long....
On the other hand, I have an citi card haven't used for many years and they never complain about it. As far as I know, only chase is doing this.

thats why I use them at the end of each month to pay off my statement.

I use my discover card points to discount my next amazon.com purchase and my boa and chase cards get cashed to credit asap.

Maybe better to cash out at 1:1 value than risk losing them for no reason. Seems like chase likes to close accounts that have a ton of points racked up for no reason.

I've never saved my points for cyber monday. I do have some saved this year though. What kind of deals have they had in the past?

I just my points to pay off part of the bill
