it depends on what purpose you want...
40mm - stronger/ better build, very compact, but not lighter, somewhat wide angle.

50mm has bigger aperture, still one of the smallest prime lens, plastic build.

40mm may be great if you have t4i or don't have 50mm yet.

Dang, I just bought the refurb 50mm f/1.8 last week and I love it. Being an amateur photographer, I'm sure I won't notice much of a difference between the 50mm and this one... I guess by going through basic photography lessons, I'll be able to stand closer to objects and get more in my frame and also lesser performance in low light situations with the 40mm f/2.8? Though I'm not sure I'll be able to tell the difference with either of those situations anyway lol

I have the 50mm 1.8, considered the 1.4 but the price difference is quite large. I am using it on the 60D. I like the 50mm to 40mm part, but am a little scared of the 1.8 to 2.8 as I use it mainly indoors.
So if build quality was off the table, is it still a good way to go or not really?

The reviews for the lens is all praise from three sources I respect.
I thought the price of 150 was just for the lens but it also comes with a filter + extras?
I can't find anything even close to this deal for this lens.
