This may no longer be helpful, but I wanted to chime in with my success story of calling ATT early morning on Thanksgiving Day having them price-match the $0.96 Sam's Club price, waive the upgrade fee, and waive the shipping fee. This is with a 2-year contract extension and an eligible upgrade. Only took me one call when I tried and they were willing to match it after the rep I talked to presumably asked her manager if they could approve that price adjustment.
If it matters I've been a ATT subscriber for sometime now (>8 years probably) and have had a smartphone previously and a data plan currently so I'd probably be considered a good customer.
Being that I'm in California I still had to pay like $48 dollars in taxes though.
EDIT: Also, they didn't need to do it this time, but in the past I've seen ATT customer service tell people to go ahead and buy a phone at full price/some other price, and if they can't price-match directly to apply a credit for the phone cost/or difference in cost on their next bill. Maybe if you encounter someone who refuses to budge and say they can't match that a low a price they may be willing to go the credit route.

Got T-Mobile to price match the 0.96 Sam's Club deal for me. Called them up last week and mentioned that I didn't want to pay rebate. They then noted my account and said I would need to call back on black friday and if they could confirm the deal, they would match any price.

Most Sam's in my area did not carry t-mobile and the ones that did had a limited supply. Luckily I called T-Mobile, mentioned the Sam's deal, and they threw in the price match without much hassle. They even offered to maintain my current 200MB/$10 data plan when I thought the 2GB/$20 was required. Probably could have gotten the $18 activation fee waived if I requested it, but I didn't want to bankrupt T-Mobile.
So the final tally: 4 brand spanking new GS3's for free + $18 activation; kept the family plan of 4 lines, 200MB data each for $110+tax a month. That's 4 phones ($1600-$2400 value) on 24month contract ($2640 payment). I could probably add another line just for the phone, play with the $200 etf, sell the phone, or try some other shenanigans, but that's too greedy and troublesome for my taste.
Since T-Mobile has been so nice to me over the years, I feel obligated to give them some well-deserved marketing for some good karma. If you want the lowest monthly rate, then T-Mobile can't be beat. The issues that most people have is their spotty coverage and phone selection. Since wifi is so available nowadays and TMo gives you free wifi calling, it helps tremendously with the signal issue, not to mention it doesn't count against minutes so it's almost like I have unlimited minutes. You can even use it for free calling while abroad. As for phone selection, the SG3 is good enough for me.
I figured out a way to get around losing unlimited by upgrading through best buy. I don't know if it was a fluke but if you'd like to know how and you're already going to buy at best buy, msg me and I'll tell you.
