I bought one as a long term media machine for my living room. It'll last longer than a junky old dual core... Not great for gaming, but good for most everything, and upgradable since the processor is pretty good, and that's the main non-interchangeable part.

Yeah, possibly* true enough. I upgraded one of my machines to windows 8, and it messed up the output to my receiver - win8 wont recognize it for some reason. I needed one quicker...

Not the ultimate machine, but a great value. better would be a 256 SSD, with a 1080P screen and GTX 660M graphics... but those go for 950+ right now - same processor.

I'd been looking for a 17" laptop to replace our 5+ year old Dell for a while, and hadn't seen much for under $500, and those were low end CPUs. So I jumped on the 17R scratch and dent with 3rd gen i5 for $404 + tax. Nice deal.

Compare it to $749 for a brand new one with the same specs but with Windows 8 from the standard Dell site. From what I've read HD4000 isn't far off some of the low-end discrete cards so I'm hoping this will be good for some light gaming as well (Portal 2, etc). |
