In my experience there are three types of people.

My type - We don't like covers, and don't mind scratches.

Middle of the road type - Like to keep their phones scratch free, but don't like bulky things - they buy cases like theses.

OCD Otterbox defender types - they want their phone protected forever, they put it in the case the moment they buy the phone, and cosmetically it looks just like the day they bought it until the day they sell it, even though they never actually see the phone. I would imagine that from time to time they take it out and look at it, or they could have just bought a used phone and put it in a new case.
