My Pioneer receiver crapped out last week and I thought this deal would be my salvation... but no receivers available in any Central Ohio BBs. Oh well. I guess I'll just continue to listen through my TV speakers (shudder) until Black Friday.

Prices aren't quite there yet for me. Though the one fella that mentioned 1612's at $99... that's very nice. There must be no flippers in your area.
1712 @ $200 is not scorching hot in terms of historical prices but it is a very solid deal as that unit has Audyssey XT, a feature which is virtually non-existent in that price range. It gives up the networking stuff in exchange. So if you are not a networking guy (media server, Pandora, etc.) it is a great box. Most people shopping midrange AVR's likely have another item that will handle those tasks better anyways. I consider Denon and Marantz slightly tweaked flavors of the same boxes, though the Denons are generally less expensive apples to apples due to sheer volume. Marantz does have a unique option in the slim line AVR's which I really like as they'll work where other boxes won't. I have on in the bedroom where it is not quite as obnoxious as a full size box. But I don't think you will find those outside of Magnolia stores, and I have never seen them last long enough to make it to a good clearance price. The high end Yamahas are also overall wonderful boxes but YPAO does not do a good job with sub calibration / room correction. It's a glaring, terrible flaw in an otherwise near perfect series of kit. If you are not picky about sub calibration or have other tools to calibrate your sub to your room correctly, there is very little to complain about with those boxes. Imho a 3010 w/ Audyssey XT or better would be a near perfect box. But as it is they need to update YPAO. If I were shopping for a new AVR I'd be waiting for later clearance rounds or negotiating on open boxes targeting about ~30-40% off the OP prices to start. They are all certainly decent deals but AVR's go on clearance like this every year. I prefer to wait for smoking deals. Last edited by FranksAndBeans; 11-01-2012 at 06:09 AM.. |

Each time I go to my store (once every 1-2 weeks) I always go to the receiver section and look for clearance receivers. If there is an employee I always ask if they have any. NOT ONCE has there been a single receiver on clearance. They've had a few open box non-clearance receivers with prices so high it was a joke, but that's it. So, these deals have been a total waste of time for me, and I'm getting near the point where I'm going to stop looking and just ignore these threads because they are so YMMV. It's not the OP's fault. I must live near sucky stores because they never have all of the wonderful clearance stuff that other people find in these threads. Due to the total lack of any clearance deals, I finally had to break down and buy a new Sony STR-DH520 for $167. Once my return period expires in another week and I'm stuck with the Sony, then maybe there will be a flood of better clearance receivers in my area to make me feel bad, but so far zip zero nada for 6+ months looking for a receiver. |

thanks for posting.. thought I got lucky by adding the Denon receiver for $99 at my local BBY until I tried to complete checkout, out of stock.
again thanks! these deals like this are like hit or miss and I appreciate the heads up.. sometimes I win.. sometimes I don't get the item because it is sold out. |

Yah, these deals are going to be very store dependent. I have four Best Buys that are within a few miles of where I regularly drive and out of them one store never has anything, two very rarely do, and one has been a real gold mine for open box / clearances. And these stores are all within a ~30 mile zone of each other so it is not just the area. In general the only trend I see is that the bigger volume based stores are better.
I also think you need to get off your butt and go in-store to get the really good deals. The one-offs or open boxes that are not listed on the website are the ones you are going to get a really good deal on. Good price on the web won't last. I understand the frustration though, feel the same way about all the target clearance deals that get posted. I've never once seen anything even remotely close to the target deals at my local target. |

Thanks for posting. I got the $99 Denon. Everything went through. Hopefully it doesn't get cancelled.
Update: Appears the naysayers (no disrespect intended) were entirely correct. I just got refund from Best Buy email. No $99 Denon for me. Last edited by edso; 11-01-2012 at 10:23 AM.. |

It's very store dependent. I checked about 15-20 stores yesterday in order to find the receiver I wanted. I did manage to snag it (Yamaha) brand new in box.
Keep in mind that the prices might be low enough to flip, but if you need/want a decent receiver, these are pretty decent prices. |

What's the chance on some of this stuff being Open Box, display models? I'm asking for a reseller I know.
