Hurricane Sandy Help Rejected By Union Workers

NBC NEWS--At a time when the northeast is in desperate need of help, utility crews from Alabama are being told "thanks but no thanks."

Crews from Huntsville and Decatur Utilities headed north earlier this week, but they were told by crews in New Jersey that they can't do any work there since they're not union employees...........

Personally I find it very hard to feel sorry for people who are begging for help but are that selective about who they get it from.

Should it make a difference if electrical crews, who do this for a living, are in the Union or not in times of National Disasters?

This disaster is money in the pockets of NJ unions and their employees. More outside help = less OT. People suffering without power doesn't factor into the equation.

That's true, but the article was obviously suspicious. First, it was way too short (100 words?). Second, it didn't include any interviews or named sources. Third, it didn't include the other side's view. When you put all of these together, you get a reporter who heard a rumor and irresponsibly filed a report on the fly when she should have done more investigation.

Actually I heard it first on the TV this morning from an MSM News this station.

I found MANY references to it but picked the NBC news because many of the rest were from NON News Blogs and such.

As for being short .. I have seen that manytimes before . Again .. we are talking an NNC NEWS url .. not a blog.

Just like several on here got snookered by the miners attending the Romney rally in Ohio story. Journalism is dead though.......so sad.

I doubt people got "snookered", it sounds like news outlets were lied to by primary sources, either workers or reps from one of these companies. News outlets will almost never air something like that without confirmation, but of course that confirmation assumes that whomever you're talking to isn't lying to you. If you tell me something about your company, I can corroborate with your coworker or boss or media rep from that company, but my information still assumes that whomever I speak isn't outright lying to me. Somebody had an agenda here to paint union workers out to be stupid and selfish, and they lied to push their agenda out there. It's not that shocking really. The government support structure is working really well up here in the northeast right now and conservatives just can't stand it, it goes against everything they believe in. So they have to attempt to change the narrative. Well, people are actually working together and getting things done here, and I'd invite those asshats to fark off and let it happen.
