![]() So I'll ask it again: How are we facing inflation when M3 is barely positive, and certainly below any type of level that would signify runaway inflation? |

TE is classically liberal -- that is, it is what we would call fiscally conservative and socially liberal. They broadly support the same principles as many libertarians, but they see and actually endorse government intervention to correct wrongs they perceive. So for example, they are in favor of gun regulation and they thing gay marriage should be legal *because* one of the roles of government is to ensure and foster social equality. Fiscally speaking, they also endorse things like bailouts (sometimes) and other forms of regulation/intervention when they deem it necessary, although they are very much in favor of free markets and trade. Their perspective is basically that of mainstream economists and financial analysts in the business world -- they don't like regulations or intervention, but it can be necessary so they hesitantly support it in some cases. And, like most academics and New Yorkers (and by extension, people on Wall St.) or Londoners, they are socially liberal and in very much in favor of secularism and tolerance. Keep in mind, TE is a global publication based out of London, so you cannot just apply an American political mindset when reading it. That said, the majority of their readership is American and they have extremely insightful analysis on American economics and politics, far better than any major American publication I can think of. Their one flaw is a lack of thorough investigative journalism, but the NYT/WP/WSJ have that covered. |
