So I've been in the market for a safe for some time now. I've been shopping around, and the really nice safes usually run about 1k.

I stumbled upon a link for 25 dollars off when you spend 100 dollars on costco.com. So, I went to costco.com to see what i would potentially want. volia, there was the beautiful safe being featured. The bighorn 24 gun safe. Looked at the reviews for it, and it was overwhelmingly good.

This is not the first time they put this safe on sale for 569.99. But you can also use the amex facebook sync feature to get an additional 25 bucks off it.

I finally pulled the trigger, and thought I might share with the community.

a couple of more days of this sale if you guys get on it!

FYI, deal is live again as of 11/09 until 11/24. They were briefly back to regular price ($769) for 5 days between "sales".

I want one, just not sure where to put it. Have a kid on the way, and need to lock things up. Only place to put it will be on the second floor. 400 pounds with a dolly up the stairs?
I wouldn't try it even if the stairs were straight and I had an appliance hand truck. I'm going to end up putting my safe in the garage, anchored to the concrete floor and camouflaged inside a cabinet.

Doesn't matter what safe you use. If someone wants whats inside, they'll get it.

Purpose of these is provide storage and keep children out.

I know not everyone will agree... but if you are going to buy a safe to protect your valuable items... buy a real quality safe... the idea of putting all your eggs in one basket rings especially true here.

I'm currently in the market for a safe and I'm probably going to end up with something more on the side of overkill.. but thats better than making it super easy for a thief to find all my most valuable items nicely packaged in a tin box.

If you are just looking to keep kids out and have a very short amount of fire protection, by all means get something like this, but if you are going to be storing items in there that cost a lot of money, or even priceless... try to invest in something nicer.

I was thinking of doing the same thing. Then my father in law pointed out that he would just wrap a chain around it and pull it out with his truck and haul it away.

I think I might go with a small 6 gun safe for now. I don't have many firearms, and the point is to keep kids, house guests, and the average B&E from getting in. A small safe is just as useful for this, and I can put it upstairs in the master bedroom.

Take the door off. Just open the door 90' and it just lifts off. It is like 100lbs. That makes it loads easier to move around. I was able to move the safe up 1 flight alone by taking the door off. I went slow.

If you have help, take the door off, it should be an easy job.

And for all the videos showing how safes like this are weak and be opened in 5 minutes or less, notice they are doing it out in the open with access to all sides. For once, I would like them to show a video of the same safe, bolted to the floor and wall, in the corner of the garage, or even better, in the closet with shelved/cabinets on both sides of the safe. Let's see them open it in 5 minutes or less.

They'd have a hard time doing that at my house, but if it comes to that, I have insurance for a reason.

Pretty sure this is a Cannon as I have the same one and it's identical in every feature although mine has a built in AC/USB/RJ-45 outlet in the bottom.

Wish I would have waited, because I pad $200 more for mine.

And I did manage to get this baby into my basement by myself. It's not as bad as you'd think.

i am pretty sure this is not a cannon safe. i think costco sells many different brands. unless cannon is the same thing as big horn. which i don't see why it would be...

and take off the door! what an awesome idea... hopefully it will be able to slide off easy... that should make the job MUCH easier. thanks s4alex!

On second thought, you're probably right. I had to recheck the specs on mine and they don't match up. Anyway, from the pics and some of the specs they look very similar. Gotta figure there are only so many safe manufacturers out there.

At any rate, be warned that the interiors on these things stink like glue, plastic, etc from VOC outgassing. If you can, leave it out in your garage a for a week with the door open and let it air out.

You can use a BOA amex credit card that has 5% on all department stores right now... maybe that's a little bit. but hey, if you want a safe, this is pretty good safe for it's price already. if you can't pull the trigger on this, then you probably will have the same hesitation on buying guns... and if you don't buy guns, then you don't really need a safe anyways. so either way, go bang, or go home... =)

Especially a good deal when you consider that the shipping is included in the price.
