I bit on the 60" Panny today for $798 from Amazon. Especially after seeing it in action at Sam's today which they coincidentally, had priced at $799. It's just a great, basic set with very few options but a set that offers an incredible picture and IMO, incredible value for what you're getting.
Kinda hard to get all bent out of shape over a 60" PANASONIC plasma for less than what we were paying four years ago for a 720p 42" set. $798 plus white glove delivery and no sales tax made this a bargain. If it goes lower than this which I'm not so sure it will as margins are already razor thin on these lower priced sets, I won't worry about if it does a little. Now I can focus on other things on BF like finding a decent tv stand for it!
If you're in the market, get one this week and no later than Saturday. Historically, tv prices are their lowest leading up to and on BF. After that, they start creeping up all the way til Christmas and through the New Year and only start going back down when the new model years are getting released.
Most Plasmas have this on by default, it's the anti-burn in feature. I know on my Samsung Plasma you can turn it off but I wouldn't advise it.

From what you are describing, it sounds like it could also be dithering[wikipedia.org], which I understand to be normal in all digital displays (although that info may be outdated).
Meh I do not know, it is very strange. I can understand during like widescreen movies where there is BLACK bars up top but I even notice while the picture is playing. Would it really still be going on while the picture is playing?
I finally committed to go do the touchy feely thing and went store hopping yesterday. Needless to say I was a bit overwhelmed. BB magnolia where kinda rude and didn't have any ST's because they don't carry lower end TV's??? Seriously, she begged me to buy the GT for 1499.......wasn't happening. After seeing the 50's, 55's and 60's, I am pretty dead set on getting a 60 but the ST in that size are out of my range. That being said all the "lower end" units in a panny where pretty cheap in price, now I am back to square one and not sure in what to buy. I may just pull the trigger on the 798 panny at Sams club out of frustration. What's your take on that?
