Figured I'd start a separate thread for the panny plasma's since the HDTV thread seems to be moving more towards a budget HDTV buying guide side and I got tired of reading through a lot of information about westinghouse, proscan and other budget HDTV brands.

I myself am most interested in the GT50 or ST50 models...hoping that the 55 inch GT will go under 1100 or that the 60 inch ST will go below 1000...

Note that Panasonic charges tax to most locales but shipping is free.
EastCoastTvs.com only charges tax to NJ residents.

Do your research on all sellers before placing an order.

If you are a Costco member see post 216 in regards to warranty options and differences from square trade.

Yes I do know what I am talking about. As I said before the white levels you know the opposite of black levels, how much black looks black instead of gray. The white level on the U50 is more cream color, where as on the LED models is white. What I was wondering is, if Best Buy purposely didn't calibrate the cheap U50 model so they can sell more expensive models. Since, I was just there at Best Buy, three times today, you can easily see a difference in the tv's ability to show whites as white.

We have to be careful to differentiate between "white light" and "white pigment." White light or d6500k is a little dimmer or "cream colored" that's actually the accurate color of white light. Sometimes we associate true white with "white pigment" like a bright white piece of paper, but that actually has a little blue in it, and is not true white which is what this TV is trying to produce since most movies are shot based on a d6500k standard. Now yes an LCD/led will produce brighter whites-and that may be what you prefer-but it's not a deficiency of this TV. It's lack of a filter and lower peak luminance hurts its performance in a bright room, but it's not due to an inaccurate "white level."

welcome to ALL mfg's. buy an extended warranty or pay the price
pffft, all mfg's have a few failures, while it DOES suck, it's luck of the draw and you can get them from anyone. panny has one of the lowest failure rates out there at 3%-4%, you just got unlucky. I mean if you and tons of other people started getting failures on them every time you bought them , then yes, they'd make a crappy product, but when 97% of consumers get one that lasts it's whole life just fine that's actually REALLY good. I've had electronic failures from just about EVERY electronics mfg out there over the years, it's just called if you buy enough sooner or later you'll get a lemon

On shop.panasonic.com they are now giving away a free Network 3D Blu-Ray Disc™ Player DMP-BDT220 ($100 value) with select TV's. Could be a good deal if you use EPP.

He's a whiny troll (seriously, why is he even in this thread otherwise?) who's too self-absorbed to understand any of that. save your breath.

I presume the guy also never buys any cars, appliances, flies airlines, or would consider using any life saving medical equipment, because, you know, for every mass manufactured product in t he history of the world there has been at least one unit that failed. eventually.

Good catch but just research the price to make sure. They are giving away the 220 model bluray player with the UT series but raised the price on the UT series a few days ago. I know because I bought the 60ut50 for $1049 and the 220 bluray player for $92 a month ago (EPP Price). The 60UT50 is now $1139 by itself.

So the 60ut50 is not a better deal than recently but there may be others on the site so I am repping your for the call out.

you actually did not get it for $948, you got it for $998. It's just that you apparently had a $50 credit on your amazon account (which would have applied to whatever you bought next), so you had $50 less charged to your card

I finally bit the bullet on a 55st, had BB price match Amazon at 1149. It was pretty hectic yesterday and he didn't even ask to see amazon and took my word for it? I had no clue the glasses didn't come with it and at 80 bucks a pop I was going to pass till later. They were real heavy in trying to push me to sign up for their CC at 0% for 24 months and he told me if I did he would give me the glasses for $39. Not bad so we commenced and as soon as I passes him my CC he tells me, sorry the TV is not in stock.....pissed! After 30mins he locates one about 20mins away so we finished the deal and I passes on their CC, but he still have me the glasses at half off.

Drive to the second store and wait for the TV to come out, last one in stock. Pull my truck up and the manager is waiting for me, he apologizes and tells me they failed to let me know that my TV is an open box.....what? Now there is the manager, TV guy, and puller apologizing to me. TV guy says the TV is brand new and was taken out of the box so they could use it as a display but realized they are had one displayed. Manager said he will give me 20% off of amazon price and I could bring it back if I wasn't satisfied. DEAL, I ended up getting it for $920....stoked!

Bring it home and the TV is brand new minus the wrapping, looked at the screws and noting was touched!

Now getting to the TV, as my 3 year old said, "daddy this is a cooool TV"!

Played with it last night and I fell in love, downloaded some apps, played with the 3d and watched a movie". Awsome TV.

This morning I did notice the windows glaring on the TV but I can't justify returning it for that, I'm a happy customer.

You guys helped so I figured the last I can do is let you know how my deal went down, enjoy your Thanksgiving, my Black Friday came early! Oh on a side note, people have been camped out for a week to but off brand products.....how the hell can they justify taking a week off of work to save a couple of hundred???? Ill never understand!
