Figured I'd start a separate thread for the panny plasma's since the HDTV thread seems to be moving more towards a budget HDTV buying guide side and I got tired of reading through a lot of information about westinghouse, proscan and other budget HDTV brands.

I myself am most interested in the GT50 or ST50 models...hoping that the 55 inch GT will go under 1100 or that the 60 inch ST will go below 1000...

Note that Panasonic charges tax to most locales but shipping is free.
EastCoastTvs.com only charges tax to NJ residents.

Do your research on all sellers before placing an order.

If you are a Costco member see post 216 in regards to warranty options and differences from square trade.

I think I'll do the whole 100 hours of prep slides as well and then use D-Nice's settings.

After all the guy is a professional calibrator so I would imagine he knows his stuff.

I may throw in a movie here and there...

For those who don't really want to do the whole 100 hours of slides thing, I found another set of calibration settings here: http://reviews.plasmatvbuyingguid...resettings

So these CNET settings you just adjust to those numbers and it is supposed to be a better picture? Can somebody post them?

Which ones look way better than which other ones? (Remember, there are three sets being discussed: CNET, D-nice, and plasmatvbuyingguide.com)

Good call.

The nice thing about the slide method is the panel is then broken in, where as if you calibrate the brand new panel out of the box, the calibration will probably no longer be accurate after the panel is broken in.

When I buy my set I'll definitely do the slides and then calibrate it.

i'm sure the guys at cnet and the other site had the foresight to think about it...infact i think i read somewhere on cnet that their calibration is done only after X no of hours...

I still had a Panasonic 65'' ST50 in my cart from US Appliance from earlier in the thread (Maybe 1-2 wks ago? Didn't feel like searching all the way through it). This was back when u proceeded to checkout it marked it down to $1997. Low and behold it still did this for me. I used my $400 cashback of VISA. I got an order confirmation. Let's see if they ship it... as I thought I read they were saying they were all out of stock. Hopefully it sitting in my cart held one aside for me lol. *crosses fingers*

Oh, I just meant the C-NET settings look much better than stock.

Yeah I'm sure they do, I was mainly referring to those who are considering getting it professionally calibrated right after purchase.

55GT50 here, still awaiting delivery. Was wondering if the calibrated custom settings will be saved if you switch to THX mode and then back to the custom settings(?) Would hate to have to keep re-adjusting the custom settings every time you switch out of that mode. Anyone know?

alright guys i thought this information might be useful for some...

i just received my 55GT50 that I bought from warehousedeals...was described as "Used - Very Good" and I can tell you that it is better than Very Good. It looks practically new to me. The screen does not have any fingerprints whatsoever and the plastic films that they usually put on the bezel and stuff is still in tact. I doubt this one was even used. Granted I haven't checked the PQ yet but so far so good.
This is good news. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on a warehousedeal soon. Hoping they get some more Very-good conditions in stock.

Thanks for following up! Repped!

thnks...there was one accessory missing however...they never mentioned it in the description which annoys me...it was a cable clamper (whatever that is!) but i did not need it...

The only thing that stops me from using the warehouse deals is that the warranty won't be honored by Panasonic. You can only buy a 1 year opened box squaretrade warranty which adds $45 to the price of the open box... Amazon open box square trade warranty link [amazon.com]

I don't think you can go wrong.

Not only is D-Nice a professional calibrator, but he's pretty much been know as the plasma God since the days of the mighty Kuro. The amount of information he provided for free on AVS forum is simply incredible. The guy has a deeper understanding of plasma PQ than Einstein did about his own theory of Relativity EEK!

Just got the 50ST50 through EPP and everything set up and works great! Picture from my 2008 Panny Plasma is a joke in comparison. Awesome picture. Apps are awesome too!
