Figured I'd start a separate thread for the panny plasma's since the HDTV thread seems to be moving more towards a budget HDTV buying guide side and I got tired of reading through a lot of information about westinghouse, proscan and other budget HDTV brands.

I myself am most interested in the GT50 or ST50 models...hoping that the 55 inch GT will go under 1100 or that the 60 inch ST will go below 1000...

Note that Panasonic charges tax to most locales but shipping is free.
EastCoastTvs.com only charges tax to NJ residents.

Do your research on all sellers before placing an order.

If you are a Costco member see post 216 in regards to warranty options and differences from square trade.

Don't forget the 10% cashback from Discover Card for purchases from panasonic.com if you have one. There's a 5% cashback bonus for online purchases through December (and you must enroll your Discover Card on their website to get it) and 5% cashback for purchases from Panasonic.com through ShopDiscover.com.
Unfortunately I don't have a Discover card but, hmm maybe I could apply for one and see the outcome... shake head

Go for it! It's a great card with great perks and they recently introduced the extended warranty coverage like some other cards have. In my opinion, that jumped them up to one of the very best.

Anyone used the Amazon 24 month financing store card? Any issues? Ideally I would like to use it, pay it off and get rid of it unless I need it again.

Why would there be any issues with the Amazon store card?

Thanks. I'm leaning towards the ST50 as well. I was watching the following CNET video review of the GT50 and David Katzmaier from CNET says the ST50 is a better value because you can tweak the settings better manually than THX mode on the GT50.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4SmQZJT14w

There is one thing they don't review and that is input lag. I did a ton of research on this before buying and all evidence points to 2011 models being the best in this category (if you are a gamer who plays rhythm, FPS, fighter or other games that require fast reflexes).

I did find this handy chart [setcombg.com] from some Bulgarian website. Assuming their models were similar to the North American ones, it has the ST model somehow coming it at twice as slow as the GT and VT. Might be worth a consideration.

Also remember a new, more accurate, testing method came out this year and made the numbers larger but they did go back and test the 2011 models and they did seem faster. One site I read said the UT was slightly under the ST (mere ms) and that did end up being a deciding factor for me going with the UT. I just couldn't justify the GT cost in the size I wanted so I took the next best route. I am very happy with my choice (although if I had EPP I would have been very tempted by GT or even ST in 55).

There isn't anywhere I found them actually all compared, but for people here that should be helpful. There have been complaints about the U50 in this area, but I can't see how it would have more processing than the UT. It all makes me ill to think about.

Oh and I haven't used the 3D yet but I'm glad to have it as an option as well as the internet apps. It just ends up being convenient and fun (for those on the fence about the U50) even if you don't "need" it per se.

Which 3D glasses are you guys getting? Looking for some decent priced ones.
You can't get more decently priced than these [amazon.com], which.. oh darn, are OOS but were $17 a few days ago. They are reported to work great despite what Panasonic and that kid at BB tells you.

The only drawbacks people mentioned are overall comfort and the lack of blinders on the sides. Oh well. Get a nice pair for yourself when they go and sale and start with these I say.

I'm kicking myself I didn't get them now. I hope that Netflix will soon offer 3D streaming, if that's even possible (the bandwidth needs would be probably too huge but they can halve the files if they need to). I'd pay extra for that.

[edit] They are available via 3rd party checkout on Amazon for 19.99 from a few vendors. Paul's TV for one, with FS. Or better yet, pick them up from BB right away!

Was it pretty obvious the box/panel was cracked? I wasn't sure how the delivery works or if everyone has white glove come in to install it.

The outside of the box looked flawless. No indents or anything.

All that I did was removed the top cover which easily comes off, removing the white handle inserts on the side and lifting it up. Then removed a few of the top foam elements which revealed the TV encased in a thin flexible foam material. I peeled the foam material back and immediately noticed on the front of the display the glass was cracked. Didn't even remove the rest of the TV from the box, no need to plug it in either.

That was going to be my plan. Was gonna swing by Best Buy tonight, got home late yesterday and couldn't make it, and pick up a few of those for when friends come over and end up ordering 1 or 2 of these for myself: http://www.amazon.com/2012-PANASO...3d+glasses
The 2011 models had better reviews than the panasonics on hidefjunkies.

Anyone plan on breaking their set in by running the slides for 100-150 hours prior to calibrating/changing the video settings?

Or is this not necessary?
i kicked them off wed evening at around 11 after watching TRON (couldn't resist)...they've been on since then minus half hour every twelve hours or so to avoid overheating..haven't been following it ditto, it's hard to have a beauty like that and not be able to use it..but figured as long as i keep my watching/gaming under 1 hr each day i can get away with it...be careful to not over do widescreen stuff...rule of thumb is to stick to less than 20 hrs of non-fullscreen content for the first 100 hrs even if u dont plan on following D-Nice's calibration

i'd say irrespective of whether u want to follow him or not, uniformly aging the screen will definitely help

Quote from OxyGen87 View Post :
How do I run the slides? Click on the 'D-Nice' link, download the file onto a SD card, and insert that into the TV? So I just let it run all day and night in one continuous run, or turn off and continue?
on page 3 of the thread there is an FAQ from one of the editors that give you the procedure to follow in detailed words/sentences (starting from "hit red power button on remote to start tv")...clear as crystal...

the GT50 and ST50 use the same panels and filter so you don't get any better "light reflection control" than the ST...HOWEVER, the THX Bright Room setting is pretty darn good for bright rooms...problem with ST is although you can control some of the settings like brightness and contrast for individual modes (cinema, game etc), you cannot control some of the more advanced features like grayscales meaning even if you are able to achieve 40fl+ brightness from the ST, you lose out on maximizing the PQ unless of course you are the kinda person that is okay with adjusting the custom settings twice a day each day (morning and night)...The THX Bright room thus will help you during the day...

laugh out loud laugh out loud I knew I couldn't be the only one. Watched Avengers on it last night since it's full screen, then put it back on the slides. It actually ran for almost 24 hrs with the slides the first day I got it with no problems at all. I put it on before heading to bed around 10pm and I get home from work around 6pm, throughout that time the slides are running the whole time. These 100 hours are killing me haha. All my friends are asking me how it is and I say it's awesome for the 2 hours I got to watch something then I have to go and explain the whole breaking in process.

I went to 2 BestBuys in San Antonio and tried to get them to price match the Adorama price of $2800 for the P65VT50. I had a printout. Both logged into Adorama and saw the $3600 price and said No Way. I went to the BestBuy in San Marcos and they did the same thing. But the young, very sharp sales guy cracked his knuckles and said let me see what I can find. Then he said OK and that he found another site to match it to and the price was $2800 (plus tax). SCORE! It will be delivered to my house on 6 December. Yea!
