Who's got deep thoughts on the Sony NEX5RK at Best Buy? Little more expensive, but the Amazon reviews make it seem likes it's a pretty good bang-for-buck.
Don't want to start a Canon vs Pentax vs Nikon vs Sony war. Anyone one something in the NEX line and can chime in their main +/- factors? Thanks? |

Main cons: unlike typical DSLRs you have very limited choices for expandability (additional lenses and flashes), and those items tend to be expensive. No 'eye level' viewfinder (it's all on the big LCD). If you don't really understand what the difference is between a DSLR and a camera like the NEX, and all you want to do is capture potentially excellent quality snapshots and HD video without having to learn photography (or carry the extra bulk), a NEX camera is a good choice. Conversely, if you have DSLR experience but are looking for something a little more portable, with the option of tweaking the settings above and beyond what you'd get with a typical point and shot (while still not sacrificing quality), the NEX would be a good camera for you also. |

Our first child was born on 06/28 so she's a little older than 4 months currently... I'd like a camera that would be able to take great pictures of her as she grows. I have no camera experience outside of point & shoots, but have knowledge of HOW dslrs/mirrorless cameras work. I'm considering either a Sony NEX-5R or a true DSLR. The weight of lugging a camera around is what turns me off about the DSLRs though.
What would you all recommend for me in my situation? |
