Amazon sells for $82.50 for just the impact for that that already have XRP batteries and do not need another probably black charger that does not charge the Li-Ion batteries. The yellow chargers do charge both Ni-Cad and Li-Ion. I have tax at Ace Hardware but not Amazon. So about $105.94 to $82.50 without small battery and black charger is my comparison. Good deal if you need the battery and charger. Impacts are great. I use them as drivers instead of drill/drivers now. Less stripping. |

I never buy any of the other deals because I already have the 18 v dewalt drill. I am wondering if I should go for the amazon deal or hold off. I know impact is better than a regular drill, plus it is better if you need to go into cement. Hmm decisions. I am hesitant because the lithium battery Makita etc. seem to be taking over.

i have a question.
been always wanting an impact driver for my car work, just did a tire rotation and took me about 30 minutes total. so i was planning on buying an air compressor with an impact driver so i could do tire rotations in about 10 minutes. my question is it says 1/4" hex shank quick release. does that mean my craftsman 3/8 and 1/2 hex and star sockets will not attach to this? i was hoping to use these with the 250 automotive craftsman set that i have since torque wrenches and breaker bars are fine, but i would prefer starting to use an impact gun like the mechanics do, just so much easier i think. should i buy an air compressor (4-5 gallon) and an air impact gun? or would this be sufficient to use? i have a question. been always wanting an impact driver for my car work, just did a tire rotation and took me about 30 minutes total. so i was planning on buying an air compressor with an impact driver so i could do tire rotations in about 10 minutes. my question is it says 1/4" hex shank quick release. does that mean my craftsman 3/8 and 1/2 hex and star sockets will not attach to this? i was hoping to use these with the 250 automotive craftsman set that i have since torque wrenches and breaker bars are fine, but i would prefer starting to use an impact gun like the mechanics do, just so much easier i think. should i buy an air compressor (4-5 gallon) and an air impact gun? or would this be sufficient to use? they are right - this is impact driver, for auto work, most likely you want impact wrench. however, you can get an adapter that is 1/4 on one end and 3/8 or 1/2 on the other that attaches to your sockets. for lug nuts, impact drivers like this won't have enough oomph to break them loose but you can speed things up after you break them loose with tire iron, if that's how you want to use it.
auto impact wrench uses good amount of continuous air measured in scfm. you may wish you get a larger one down the road. but that takes lots of room if you are space limited... milwaukee has a 1/2 impact wrench that i like but they charge exorbitant amount for their so called red link lithium battery, as much as $119 an XC (extended charge) battery at home depot. the wrench itself is about $169 bare tool. air is still the way to go, and if you do any trim carpentry, you'll thank yourself for a air brad nailer ... i've yet to know a man who doesn't like to shoot that thing ... http://www.amazon.com/Bare-Tool-M...act+driver That link shows a unit with 475 foot-pounds of torque. That's more than 4x the torque and uses the standard 1/2 inch anvil for standard high torque applications. I only mention Milwaukee b/c thats what I use. Dewatt probably has similar products. That or just use a breaker bar (they are so cheap anyways at Harbor Freight) before using the impact wrench to spin off the lug nut. But i imagine if your doing this for professional work, mind as well invest in the impact wrench since its one less step, x4 wheels x5 lug nuts. |
