Damn, refurbished and all this is still a hot deal. Comes with a 1 year warranty from Silicon Dust the manufacturer so hopefully that's true. The new prices hit pretty low last year $129 ish +/-.
Holly Crap are there a lot of people that think they know how to operate this device on the Woot forum. Talk about a microcosm of wrong & right or partially right answers. Woot shouldn't have lumped these two sales together. The Dual is for ATSC OverTheAir broadcasts (digital) or Clear QAM / Unencrypted digital from your cable provider. (No NTSC form your cable Co.) The Prime REQUIRES A CABLE CARD rental each month (varies depending or you cable co & within the cable companies your locations. However, once it is provisioned w/ a cable card, the cable card can be removed from the Prime to make it a Clear QAM tuner. However, this defeats most of the advantages of the device and for a simple Clear QAM tuner you are better off getting Two Duals. Prime will function like a TIVO or you Cable PVR for your Digital channels unfortunately if your CC still has Analog NTSC stations that they don't also carry in Digital then you'll need an additional TV Tuner Card, or USB Tuner for those. THREAD Definitely a hot price at $105 Shipped for a Refurb model. However, I wouldn't be surprised if these are on sale for $99.99 somewhere in the near future NEW. |

I have a question. I am going to get Comcast HD. So if I get the Prime and a Cable card will I be able to split to all three rooms with a TV and will they all get the same HD channels as a regular HD Comcast box? Comcast wants to charge $9 per HD box and with three rooms this may be a way to save. Can other PC's essentially be used as a extra 'Cable box'? Can I use Windows Media Center Guide on each PC to access TV shows and recordings? I thought I read an XBOX 360 could be used as a Cable box. Is this correct? To be clear, this is for either the HD Homerun OR the HD Homerun Prime.
For the HD Homerun $49 is a horrible deal, considering I got mine NEW from Newegg for $54.99 For the HD Homerun Prime $99 is an 'OK' deal (not great) considering I've seen people purchase it new for $109-129. I'd rather a new one for a few $$ more than a refurb. |

do you not trust refurbs in general or have you heard reports of silicondust hardware being faulty? as far as your comment: OK not great. generally great is reserved for the best ever price.... ive never seen this lower than $99, making this great. in my case id rather keep the $10-30 instead of having some fancy retail box im just going to tear open and recycle.
question 2: yes, yes question 3: yes, it can act as an extender, meaning you can watch tv and schedule recordings. bottom line this is exactly what you need. Last edited by hightop32; 11-04-2012 at 11:54 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

This device only has a network ethernet port as an output source. There's not HDMI port to use on the 3 tvs you mentioned. If you want to access the Prime on these tvs you have to have some way to capture the feed from the prime and project onto the tv such as a computer, ipad, etc. The device has 3 tuners. As long as all 3 tuners aren't used at once, you can access the cable channels from any device. The XBOX 360 reference is a little misleading on the Woot site. As far as I know, the XBOX is an extender, meaning that it has to be connected to a computer that has WMC that acts as the "home" WMC and the XBOX extends from that. If the computer is powered off or is offline from the network, the XBOX cannot access the Prime. There are ways to use the XBOX as a way to record from the Prime without a computer using TvHeadend but I'm not sure how to do it. Hope this helps. I'm tempted to buy another one since I paid $135 for mine, but not sure if I need it. |

2) Media center guide will work. There is some setup with WMC in general though. Not too bad, should be less than one night for Media Center 3) Xbox can be used as an extender off of one of the above PC's. It means one PC has to be running and accessible across the network. The network can get crowded with a remote PC running the extender I think. I don't believe the feed gets routed directly to the Xbox because it runs a buffer and that buffer is on the PC I'm almost 100% sure. So you have the HDHR talking to the PC and the PC talking to the Xbox. This isn't a problem if the PC is wired to the router. I have simultaneous dual band router and the Xbox is on the lower band and the PC is on the upper band. Basically like two routers. And I have no problems. If put everything on the same band and use the xbox and record two other things on the PC, I have problems. Sometimes I'll have problems if I use the xbox while recording one other thing but that's intermittent. If I spread things over the 2 bands, I don't have any issues.
