I've been looking for weeks on a great laptop deal and either miss out on the good ones or thought they weren't so great. It isn't the best laptop deal by an means I think, but in the $400 range I think it might be the best laptop available so far during BF. I jumped on it even after getting what I thought was a really good deal on a Lenovo outlet laptop, now I'm going to return that one and keep the Acer.

Pros of Acer:
3rd gen i5
Thin like an ultrabook (under and inch)
750gb HDD (not an SSD, but still pretty large for a laptop)
Win 8 (pro and a con depending on who you ask, but I was thinking of doing the $15 upgrade on the Lenovo laptop I ordered anyways. I guess if I hate it I could always install win 7 with my license for that.)

Cons:
Acer, not known for the greatest laptop build quality
Keyboard people have reported as being cramped and that its hard to type on it until you get used to it
Perhaps difficult to replace/repair disc drive

I'm comparing it to the bestbuy $399 laptop that only has an 3rd gen i3. I think out of the two the Acer wins out.
Just wondering why you are not considering the quad core at Target, altho it's a Gateway for $350.

Its a gateway, plus I like the thin design of the Acer. I wanted an i5 at least. That Gateway would be better for gaming, but I have a desktop for that. I think the i5 is faster than the A8, right?

Gateway has only 4gb ram and 500gb HDD also.

I'm getting so confused! Can someone just post a link to a decent <$400 laptop?? I ordered the Sears $219 Asus but ater hours of reading threads I'm worried it will be too slow & still have no idea what I'm looking for. I'd really like to stick with win7.

Yeah, but a few reviews I found mentioned that the battery life was quite good. I think the cpu it has uses very little power.

That's quite expensive... though it is pretty souped up.
You'd be better off getting an ultrabook with less ram, and a HDD, and then buying RAM and an HDD/SSD and putting it in there, that would make it much less cheaper. And another pound or two on the laptop won't kill you to carry it around, 5-6 pounds isn't bad.

If you'll just use this for emails, web browsing, videos, etc... This ultrabook is waaay too overpriced for this.

600-800 will net you a pretty nice ultrabook.

Oh yeah, you posted in the thread I made. Lucky you got the tax removed. How? Do they not charge tax for your state?
I complained when my shipment was delayed. They tried to play the "but this computer is already way below cost." Card.

I have to grab one from a brick and mortar store this weekend. I need for light gaming. Is the Sams deal the best one that comes with the i5? That one has piqued my interest the most for a B&M purchase...it does seem as some have actually ordered that..how?

That's not really a good deal (The Amazon link)
The Tiger Direct Asus is pretty good (Though refurbished)

^Check these out, these are pretty good
Just make sure you check the keyboard and Operating System to make sure it's not in French.. B/C the keyboard will be French, and it has a different layout than qwerty keyboards.

The more I look and research the more confused I become! Still looking at the physical ads today and I just don't know what to do. I know it is subjective, but based on what all of you well versed computer people know, what would be the best for photoshop, as well as music/movies. My daughter loves to dabble with photography, loves to listen to her music and watch movies.

She has a HP and has had nothing but problems, so I prefer to stay away from them, but am not totally opposed.

Please help!
