Not trying to shyte on the deal or anything OP, just offering alternatives to SD'ers....but if you search Craigslist for pallet racks/racking or wire decking, there are usually warehouses getting rid of this stuff dirt cheap. Alternatively, Home Depot and Lowes both sell Superstrut for around $15-20 per 10' piece and threaded rod for the uprights. Add a sheet of plywood and you're looking at around ~$60-80.
I believe I've found the solution to obesity in America. Hemispherectomy....no one uses it anyway.

I've been researching racks for six months and was thinking about buying the equivalent of this from Amazon for $250. Yes, there are cheaper alternatives, but they are either flimsy (with cheap lag bolts which might fall out of the ceiling) or may take more time to put construct and put up.
Getting these for $150 is a super deal. TU and Repped. |

i see a lot of this stuff on my local cl too and they are indeed cheaper...or you can buy the parts from HD with the 50 off 100 coupon and might even have a better built one with better components compared to Costco's. that is if you wanna think outside the box...if not, Costco is right for you then... |

How easy/hard is it to put this thing up? The new house we moved into doesnt have these things and I am so used to having them.

It's very easy to install them. Just make sure you bolt its to the stud ceiling for support. |

is this good for the ceiling. I was talking with my builder in the past and he was not recommending this since the load from the rack was not designed in to the ceiling stud structure.
I also see quite few ceiling cracks on the dry wall with this type of racks in other houses. thx |

I have this rack, think I paid $250 for it. It is somewhat time consuming to install, but once it's up it's awesome, very sturdy. The only thing i don't like is it does have some side-to-side sway in it, so I try not to lean on it when moving items around.
One other tip - when screwing the lag bolts into the ceiling, use something to lubricate them and go slow. They are fairly long, and once most of the way in, it's not hard snap the head off them. |

I have a different version of these, but if you have EWB beams, or engineered wood joists, there is a maximum amount of holes you can drill into these beams from the bottom. For myself, I can only put 2 brackets on each beam. Be wary of this.
