Thanks! Sounds like were on the same page. I'm gonna give this a little more thought and will report back.
Yeah...I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to overcome possible sag in the middle of the rack (causing wood warp) and how I could support it, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized I was probably making it a bigger issue than it actually would be. As long as the plywood base rests on top of the sides, all you would really need is a single threaded rod going across the middle of the width, as the plywood will help distribute the weight evenly across the side rails (superstrut) and middle beam (threaded rod)....hence there should be very minimal sag. The threaded rod beam in the middle should probably be bolted on both sides of the side rail as well (so 4 bolts total on the rod), to prevent the rod from shifting back and forth and increase the rigidity between the two side rails (by making the whole structure function as one, vs allowing the side rails to sway/move independent of one another).
I believe I've found the solution to obesity in America. Hemispherectomy....no one uses it anyway.
What are the pallet racks you're referring to? link? You don't mean the commercial pallet racks like they use @ Costco, HD, etc do you? Those would be too thick and heavy for my use.
I only have 14" clearance above my garage door, so I'm gonna put them more in the middle of my garage. Biggest I can go is 2 racks around 4'X6'.
Yeah...The same ones you see in the home improvement stores. I mentioned before that they are pretty thick though ~4-5"? So wouldn't be much good in my case either. However, there are alot of people who easily have 2-3ft or more between the garage door and ceiling, in which the pallet rack width wouldn't really make much difference.
