There are some newer video processing features on the 6450 and DX11 vs DX10.1. If any of those interest you at all, it MIGHT be worth a look, but bottom line, if I didn't do the middle "upgrade" to the 3650, I wouldn't have switched from the 4550. Last edited by pdp76; 11-08-2012 at 10:17 AM.. |

I upgraded a asus m3a78-em on board graphics (hd 3200), a sempron 140 (45w), 2gb ddr2 memory , a corsair 430w psu to a $15 ecs ic780m-a2 board with an athlon 2 255 (65w), 8gb ddr3 memory, 6570 graphics card with a antec 400w psu and my wattage increased 20 (60 to 80) watts idle using a kill a watt meter. I don't know what the power usage is a 9600 gso is you can still get them for $15 AR sometimes. WIE graphics went from 3.3 to 6.7.

I just received this card and installed it. I used to just use the integrated graphics of my FAR ECS mobo. The WEI graphics score was 4.3, and this card upped it to 4.7. Very "meh" at best. Probably should have dropped a few more bucks and gotten something better.

However, according to Wikipedia [wikipedia.org], there shouldn't be much difference for consumers - the changes seem to be more for enterprise use: "PCI Express 2.1 supports a large proportion of the management, support, and troubleshooting systems planned for full implementation in PCI Express 3.0. However, the speed is the same as PCI Express 2.0." In fact from reading online, the PCI-e 1.1 bandwidth limit shouldn't be a problem yet for most current generation video cards. |

I bought and installed the Gigabyte 6450 in my Dell Inspiron 530 desktop. But now I've noticed an occasionally thin, faint, horizontal line that will appear in my screen occasionally about a 1/4 or 1/3 of the way down. Any ideas on this?
This morning I also ran my windows experience score, and graphics and graphics gaming scores both went down. I previously had an 512MB GEForce 8400 GS, which is supposedly lower on the "hierarchy" than the new 6450. Any help??? (according to my box I got PCI version 2.1) |
