I just picked up HL2 and HL2 ep1. I could not use the code "BETATHANKS" because I used it already on a previous order.

I did however find another code that worked: "download"

Took off 20% for my entire oder. Got both (classics, I already had HL2 ep2) titles mentioned above for $3.58!

I'm not a gamer by any means - I just happen to appreciate the odd game here and there, and appreciate the convenience of Steam. My favorite games (from a few years ago but still like to play) are Beyond Good and Evil, and I just finished Amnesia a few weeks back and LOVED it. I've tinkered with Limbo as well, but haven't taken the time to finish it.

Any specific recommendations from this list?

I'd say any games on that list is good, if you want a fun co op zombie game then go for left for dead 2, want competitive fps game go for cs: source, want some puzzle solving fps style go for portal, and if you just want some single player fps than half life 2.

Portal 1 was awesome, and honestly I was just waiting for it to go on sale again... This is a winner!

It's never happened to you because it doesn't happen... I have no idea what the guy is talking about. Steam can crash completely (which I've never had it do... but you can just close it in the background same thing.) once the game is launched and the game will keep running without Steam the only reason Steam is even required at launch is it checks for updates and verifies game files prior to launch. You can actually download cracks for any game on steam that skips that step as well so Steam isn't required at all once you've downloaded the game.

If you like one or more of these things [ comedy, interesting game physics, puzzles, science fiction, theoretical science ] you will like Portal. And honestly, if one of those things appeals to you, do yourself a favor and grab Portal 2 while you're at it. $4 for that game is an absolute steal, and if we ever see it below $4 again it will probably be over a year from now.

Half Life 2, as I mentioned already, for $2 is a game any gamer (or in your case, "appreciator of games" ) should pick up. Really cool story, engine, AI, unique gameplay. For two dollars??? Fantastic.

No he is right, Steam crashes do terminate games, but I think that only happens when playing online and the Steam client authenticates the validity of your account every now and then. I've seen many people being kicked out a server because their Steam failed to respond.

But IMO Steam is the best form of DRM right now. You are free to change PCs, only need email authentication, and on top of that they have killer sales (albeit for Indie and old games).

Edit: FYI cracks are a bonus, not a feature of Steam. If someone wants to crack then it's unlikely that they'll get the game from Steam anyway.

thanks OP. I didn't finish playing ep1 on xbox 360 orange box. Haven't touched ep2. Now that I don't have my xbox, I wanna try this on a nice gaming PC.

Is this better looking than the one on orange box Xbox360?
