will the republican party disband?

i've noticed a few posters conspicuously absent today. i think a few of the podium right wing standard bearers may have jumped off bridges or maybe are just working off massive hangovers right now.

will the republican party disband? will it move to the center? will it embrace libertarian social views? will it make one last attempt at the angry white male vote? will they negotiate a secession of the south? will they use the fact that they still have around 58 million strong in their base and that they retain the house as validation for staying the course? will the karl rove establishment be ousted?

hopefully they'll try to focus on fiscal conservatism rather than religious moralities. I'm getting sick of voting D.

I do not know about "disband" but despair, for sure.

They're obviously going to have to come back to the center if they want to compete in future Presidential elections. This far right wing crap just turns off the average moderate voter.

Let's hope the posters that you mention have determined that intelligence has once again prevailed and have decided to become educated, rather than being curled up with their guns in the corner.

The problem with Republicans is that they have become so convinced that their righteousness will carry them through in a national election when they have a lesser base of electoral votes. In looking at the numbers, Obama was twice as close to winning the electoral college as Romney.

The Republicans are doing nothing to address their deficit of base electoral votes and instead rely on a last minute strategy of swing states.

They basically did a last minute cramming session instead of prepping early for the exam. And then they wonder why they failed the exam.

Looking at the past 4 years, knowing what baggage Obama carried, an (R) win was very possible if the (R) had only put up someone that was more differentiated from Barry. But, as I say - the populace is idiotic and wants a candidate to tell them what they want to hear regardless of reality.

I don't doubt this will be the narrative in certain circles, but it doesn't hold up to scrutiny. I think the Republicans would have better luck with moderate candidates, rather than moving further to the extreme right (if that is even possible). Romney's lowest polling numbers were during and after the Republican primaries, when the conversation had drifted dangerously far to the right. He really only recovered when he basically abandoned those positions during the first Presidential debate. But in the minds of too many, the damage was probably already done. By then he was considered too secretive and his true positions uncertain.

This corresponds with the outcomes of other races, where many of the extreme tea partiers lost their seats - potentially even costing the Republicans the Senate.
