Just an FYI. These come from a lot of different vendors. If you get one with a longer male microUSB plug (ie. 5/16" long), you may not want to try it on your phone. I got one like this and it fried my SGS3. It worked when I first plugged it into the phone. Android recognized it just fine. When I plugged my flash drive into the female end, my phone screen went blank. I could not get my phone to power on again. There is a review on Amazon by someone that may have had the same problem. You think it might be because the S3 (and Note 2) screwed over MHL support? So OTG on S3 is a little "problematic" now? (works perfectly fine for S2)

Not that I'm aware of. There is also a thread on xda about this. If anything, it sounds like bad QA on the manufacturer.

I ordered one of these a few days ago for a higher sub $1 price from this seller, hoping to be able to use my usb powered external hd with my touchpad. Worst case, I'm out a dollar and I have to try to use a powered usb hub.
