Maybe about $63 net for 8hrs but 8 to midnight may only get them 4.5hrs pay. Wlamart may liit hours or spread them over the 2 days to save on benefits and overtime. $10/hour employees don't get retirement and can't afford to put anything into a 401K if Walmart has one.
Walmart may not match their 401 contributions if there is one and if the employees can afford to contribute. They're hourly employees, not salaried employees. They were told they had the day off and now Walmart is trying to force them to work a shift that's later than what they signed on for and Walmart, that bastion of wholesom, country values wants to guilt the states for having family values instead of business values. Shoppers should quite whining and stay home with their families instead of prefering shopping with rabid lemmings over their families. Familiies stay home and watch the news report the idiots who shot or trampled someone to death over a video game. All states used to have consumer laws that required a store to have so many of an item on hand for a sale depending on the area/population they advertised the sale price over. Now stores list, "limited quantity availble" between 9AM and 10AM to drive foot traffic. Lemmings swarm the store and camp out only to find that there were only 10 items available and the first 3 people in line purchased all of them. I'm not arguing. I'm just listing facts for consideration. How would anyone like their boss telling them they had to work a holiday they had previously been told they would have off and that they had made plans for a trip. There is no urgent reason for you to work except that your boss thinks that he MAY make more money per hour on that day if you do more work per hour for the same pay. Your boss isn't going to work it. Everyone wants to make a judgement on matters they have no experience and know nothing about. What if it were you who was being railroaded? The reality is that people have to do what their employer wants them to do or they lose their jobs. People have to keep their jobs to feed and house their families. It's not right, just or fair. That's why there are protections under law and many states insist on keeping the Blue Laws in spite of the whinings of department stores and those lucky enough to have money to spend and the day off to shop. . How did I get into this? Peace; bye; Happy Holidays to ALL! I for example work IT. During major projects, I have to stay late at night, or work on the weekends, working more than 40 hours per week with no extra pay...do I complain? no its part of the job I signed up for. PS, not everyone that works at walmart is broke ass poor. Some may have a husband or wife that makes a decent salary and their walmart paychecks just supplement that. |
