Do you know if apple is having 10% off for bf this year on ipad 4? I'm fine w that. Looks like all the stores are keeping a tight lid on ipad 4 as of now.
Too early to tell, but most likely. Apple had $41 off the $499 iPad last year so I imagine they would do it again this year too, although they are all new models that just came out to maybe they won't discount them. It's hard to tell :-/
Sooooooo, how are the Walmart etc. employees different/better than all the healthcare workers, Firefighters, cops, EMS, restaurant .........etc. workers. We work ALL HOLIDAYS.....selective whining???
Thank you deedz2! First off poor Walmart worker! If they got an education or joined the armed services, they wouldn't work at Walmart on Thanksgiving. Yes I can say that because I was that college drop out working at Sam's club. I smartened up, joined the service and have a high paying job now as a civilian but still have to work on Thanksgiving. It gets me out of dinner with the inlaws. You stupid lazy Americans think you shouldn't have to work on holidays, your birthday, all summer and should still get paid. Wait until we are under China rule because you're so lazy and want all these entitlements for not doing squat. They'll have us working in sweatshops when they come looking for repayment of loans we have to pay for Obamaphones and food stamps. You think China will offer free insurance to everyone and free housing? Get a clue America!
I'm going to go with earning minimum wage. Stores don't need to be open on Turkey Day. We don't need to go out and spend, spend, spend on Turkey Day.
As for other workers, they are getting paid well to work on Turkey Day. As for Cops, Firefighters, EMS, healthcare workers, they do get paid well on holidays, as well as if you work one, you are off the other.
I work in a field that is 24/7. I'm on call for Turkey Day Weekend. Happens. I didn't have to work it last year. The issue I have is with greed of big companies wanting to open earlier & earlier to try to get sales on no name products (usually).
As last year, I will be doing the Amazon/Newegg Black Friday deals.
So by your logic, if you earn minimum wage then poor you having to work on holidays......... but if you earn better than minimum wage then sorry bout your luck! How stupid! Also your statement that those of us in healthcare etc. get paid well to work on holidays is pure BS! I get my usual pay unless I work 2nd or 3rd shift with a shift differential of 7.5 or 11%. Don't know where you get your info! We get another day off, big deal, it's not the holiday and we don't get to choose what day we want off! I highly doubt you work a 24/7 job or you wouldn't spout wrong information! Btw, you're wrong too saying if you work one your off the next.... you should know we are promised nothing and are at the mercy of the employer's need and schedules ...... so you see, despite what you'd like to BELIEVE, life isn't fair! Restaurants are also open on BF, so your saying their wages are high? I don't hear you whining about them having to work! Just my guess but as much as you are protesting only "the poor retail worker" working holiday times....... You have someone in that scenario.... FYI, my 1st nursing job I was a divorced mother of 2 and had to work Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.......... for my regular pay of $5.00 an hour! So don't go telling me how we get paid "well" to work the holidays and quit spreading untruths, others may well believe!

Healthcare, firefighters, cops, EMS and other workers like that are essential life and death workers.
Not sure why restaurants open but very few here beside some of the huge chains of fast food places, which again shows how much these huge corps care about their employees.
Opening up Wal-Mart for a thanksgiving is far from an essential service.
Quote from fyu :why are they suffering? they aren't getting paid?
Not much, would you blow off thanksgiving with your family for like the $30 they'll get out of it?
So, if the Walmart employee doesn't like it, they can quit, or go to college.
what stops me from getting the ipad and GC using the gift card and returning the Ipad?
Edit* besides ethics
All retailers have their systems set up, where you have to return the 'full' item to get the refund.
In case of gift cards, the card is part of the purchase. If not returned, the amount will be deducted from your refund.
You don't know the half of it. My wife has an exception on her schedule to not be scheduled on Thursdays because she takes care of our grandmother and they scheduled her anyway. When she confronted her boss about it her only excuse was "My boss overrode me" .. and "All you can do is not come in and I'll "try" to not have it count against you after 30 days when my boss won't see it". It HAS to be illegal for them to schedule someone that has an exception.
Well, it's hardly ever if at all for the benefit of the employee that he works on the holiday.
As far as fireman, policeman, etc and someone selling sox at a department store, there's a real difference between essential and non-essential personnel, safety, public welfare, etc.. The Blue Laws are based on our Puritan values, our beginnings. The store employees aren't saving lives, first responders, law enforcement or care providers and they usually don't get holiday pay, differential pay, union perks, extra vacation days, decent pay or a choice to work the holiday or not. Safety personnel usually know if they're low man on the totem pole, they have to work holidays and they'll be compensated for it. After paying their dues, in time, lower personnel will cover the holidays so they can have it off. I assume Walmart pays little, has no perks and no union protections. Their employees were most likely assured of what their schedule would be when they were hired and Thanksgiving Day was listed as a day off only to be told the week before the holiday to work it or be fired. No state can have a law against employers forcing employees to work a day only to fold when stores want to pretend the law doesn't exist and have any sense of credibility, fairness, equal protection under law and due process nor a reasonable expectation of any of their laws to be complied with if they fold.
Network news broadcast reported Target claiming no one is forced to work it the same report where several employees where complaining they were forced to work. Immediate firing, shortened work schedules and the first to be let go whenever sales go down aren't tracked. Employees where made to know the score or told outright they would be fired.
As for the companies claiming they're losing sales to similar stores in neighboring states, they knew the Blue Laws when they opened their store and these big box stores that are complaining ARE THE SIMILAR STORES IN THE NEIGHBORING STATES.
I suppose, to be fair, we could force all the companies who gave their employees the day off to eat who now also want to shop to force those shoppers to work the holiday. So, they wont be able to shop anyway. They can eat with their families but they have to go to work when the stores who want to open late Thanksgiving Day open. Problem solved! Piss off everyone! Retail workers are pissed. Everyone who has any sort of job is pissed. And stores are pissed because they don't get any increase in sales nor any earlier sales.
