I like Peet's as a company but their coffee is massively overroasted. Their typical brewed coffee is so strong I have to ask them to add hot water as it has caused me headaches. This is the coffee you want if you like a dark roast though.

Also, their baked goods "are all made by local bakeries who use only the finest ingredients," so you won't see junk like HFCS or trans fat in them (I have confirmed).

From a Peet's rep:

"There are no genetically modified ingredients, no artificial preservatives, and no trans fats in any of our baked goods."

Note these responses were from a few years ago though.

I prefer Pete's over SBUX (or other) because their coffee is roasted dark, which reduces the acid and lets the sugar come through. They brew it like coffee, versus tea, nice and strong.

Technically, the longer your roast the coffee bean the less caffeine the brew will have. Contrast that to the light-roasted, Dunkin Donuts crack I know you East Coasters are hooked on. :-) That stuff gives me a headache.

FWIW, Pete's is owned by SBUX now, so clearly there's a market for the different styles/venues
