I worked at Target for one year in HS and I had to work BF. That was terrible. Flash forward 12 years, and if they made me do that, especially while still in HS, my parents would probably force me to quit. Even then, I'd still quit.
I feel bad for all the retail employees who have to deal with this. They basically get no holiday. I can't wait to hear about someone who falls asleep in line because they ate too much turkey, and ultimately succumbs to exposure. Last edited by hceuterpe; 11-12-2012 at 11:34 AM.. |

You have to look at the retailer side of things here too. Most are losing money or selling items at cost with these prices. So, by setting times earlier and earlier they are hoping less people will show up and they lose less money on those doorbuster items. The doorbuster deals are mainly intended to get you in the door in hopes they'll sell you more stuff before you finally leave. Atleast, that my take on the whole situation. I'm not by any means going to be at Wal-Mart on Thursday, hell any store for that matter. At that point they can keep the crap.

It would be better if she did work on Thanksgiving. She'd get paid time and a half and probably have to be there at 8 PM and then she wouldn't have had to be there so early on Friday where it's just regular pay. She's already planning to be in bed by 8 PM so it's not like our Thanksgiving isn't cut short either way. |

Maybe the stores are hoping that with them opening earlier, it gives people more time to shop. This way they won't trample and kill each other trying to get to 3 stores within a 2 hour time frame.
Shopping is a luxury on black friday. No one NEEDS a tv or NEEDS an Xbox 360. You either sacrifice your time to save money or you pay more money. The employees all choose where they work. I'm assuming the requirements are given before you sign your tax forms and accept the job. Once you accept it, you accept ALL that comes with it. Danielle

So don't shop if you are mad. If enough do not shop then it won't be profitable to be open on Thanksgiving so the stores will not be open next year. Of course you will find that it will be profitable.
Please quit saying govement should pass laws to make it illigal so people can stay at home with thier familly. Govement has passed way to many laws already in our 200 + years. Companies are not in business for the workers. Workers work for the company so it can make money. No one owes you a job and if you don't like what your job is get another one. If that is the only job you can get then you should be thankful for actually working on Thanksgiving celebrate another time. I do salute you for having a job when so many do not even want to try and work. The whole concept of Thanksgiving in Nov. is a joke why would you celebrate and eat a large amount of your bountiful harvest before the bad weather is even done. Should be celibrated in spring when all who survied the winter could be thankful at the end of it. |

your idea makes about as much sense as celebrating the new year in april. |

BF was good. Ten years ago. Now, I sleep in. I cannot fathom the greed of retailers now and pity the employees. I'm boycotting it. Plus, the deals pretty much suck.

But I believe that my example would more accurately be discribe as Celebrating the old year on Dec. 31 not celebrating the new year in April. But since it is celibrating hard work and the rewards generated from it what better way to Celebrate than to work hard on that day. Yes I have worked many of Thanksgiving days, Christmas days, 4th of July and all our major hollidays. Military is 24/7. |
