I miss the days of having dinner, visiting, relaxing with some pie, scouring the adds all night and then hitting the stores Friday MORNING. Sadly, $ tight with 4 kiddies, and I feel forced to catch some of those great deals on Thanksgiving also. I would love it back to the way it was, but its not gonna happen
As for the workers, im sure many of them knew long before BF that they would be working that day, they are getting paid (whatever that wage maybe), and could have made arrangements with family or even worked out their schedule in case of emergency.
My wife works at Target and they had a sign up sheet for working on Thanksgiving. But if they don't have enough staff they will schedule more to work. If you ask for time off on that day, BF or basically anytime during the holiday season it won't go over very well with management.
We've been pretty lucky with her schedule the last few years but if they open at 9 PM (still not confirmed at her store) I imagine she will work some sort of split shift between Thursday and Friday. It comes with the territory.
Definately no fun. I think 5am is the best. Get your turkey day and family stuff done and maybe even squeeze in a nap before going out. If the stores open at 8pm or 9pm you will have to get in line by 5-6pm depending on the store, area, and item you want to have a guaranteed shot. But as said I guess its a choice except for all of those employees who are forced to work Thanksgiving. If they open at 8pm the employees will have to be there by 4pm to get everything ready. Its all greed and ridiculous.
im 24 and im happy. it means i can get the good stuff over with earlier and then go to like bath and body works with my mom and not be rushed since shes in a wheel chair. only family ill be missing is my brother who is finally in 4 years coming home on leave for Christmas.
I hope your female or this whole post is really lame
I am a man, we cuss..
and not angry, just annoyed one of my favorite past times is going down the shitter.
i am sorry good sir, i guess i havent reached manhood yet, but your past time can still stay intact, its your choice how to spend it, with family or at the store, or maybe even with family at the store.
Yeah lets just get rid of Christmas too & have sales on Christmas day making people work that day as well.
no one is getting rid of thanksgiving, my apologies, my fault, maybe i did not explain my point in a way you would understand. No one is forcing people to work, it is the workers choice. When someone enters the B2C retail business they know that sometimes a their schedule is going to call for less than desirable hours.
My point is to celebrate at the reason for a certain holiday, and live everyday that you can for that reason. If you celebrate Christmas, than shouldn't you live everyday with the morals and lessons we learn from that day? I understand practically it might not be possible but be should always strive for the ideal. Kindness and Selflessness, as much as we can, should be practiced year around, not just on December 25th. Or if you want just celebrate Christmas on January 6th, eastern style, and you will never miss a Dec 26th sale, plus you will always be able to find cheap wrapping paper.
Dec thru March- I paid much less for this item on Black Friday
March thru September- Good but ill wait for Black Friday
Oct thru November- OMG this is going to be so cheap on Black Friday
End of November- This year's Black Friday sucked
guys, no one is forcing you to go, there is no reason to get so angry at stores for trying to maximize their sales, changing start times is in no way devious, no one is trying to undermine the sanctity of thanksgiving.
Really? Because I bet those employees who need that job to put food on the table in the first place would disagree
Even if the sales are online only, employees would still have to work the support phone lines and IT in case of any melt downs. Well I hope they had IT on the ready for the Walmart crash a few years back.
Speak for yourself. Leave me out of your definition of a man. When I hear people cuss, it just makes me think they don't have a big enough vocabulary.
Way to judge people. I curse b/c there is no other word to describe certain scenarios or situations. Not b/c my vocabulary isn't as grand... which it is despite your depiction of people who curse.
I am somewhat mad at this but also happy b/c this means less people might show up... or more since its earlier.
Walmart has the best deals for me this year (b/c of the huge videogame sale) so I'm just afraid of there being a lot of people there and than I won't be able to get my games since the mobs of people will grab everything within even knowing what it is like every year. If anything, I will have my tablet on me to do some online shopping for items I didn't get.
