Thread Details

Sears.com [sears.com] has (11/22) 50'' Toshiba 50L2200U 1080p LED HDTV for $299.99 on November 23rd (BLACK FRIDAY).

Additional info:

Description: We have barely seen any 50" LED HDTV's for $500, so this $300 price tag is slick! The TV does not have WiFi or Apps, or many HDMI inputs but for $300, it does not need to. What you will get is a very good TV at an unbeatable price.

From what I've read, the TV has very good motion for a 60hz TV. For $300, the refresh rate is the last thing on my mind haha. It looks like a great TV from top to bottom, from Blu-Rays to gaming to PC usage.

Also, the ad says at 4AM there is another Doorbuster for another 50" HDTV at the same price. It just says "50" Major Name Brand HDTV." Do we have any info on what THAT TV is going to be?

Just got off the phone with Discover and they said that the Price Protection would apply if you bought it today as long as the claim was filed within the 90 days of the original purchase.

Robert: Thank you for visiting Discover.com. What questions can I help you with today?
MTWiley: Hi, I need to purchase a new TV this weekend, however I'm concerned that the TV I buy may wind up on sale during Black Friday. I was wondering, will the Discover Price Guarentee be able to refund the difference if the TV I buy this weekend winds up on sale on Black Friday?
Robert: That is an excellent question and I can understand your concern with the Black Friday deals.
Robert: Yes, Price Protection does count for Black Friday sales!
MTWiley: Awesome, thanks for the confirmation. Yet another reason to love my discover card.
Robert: The thing to be careful is that the Price Protection applies to the exact model of TV and doesn't count if they try a 'bundling promotion'.
Robert: You're welcome!
Robert: This new feature was added to give you peace of mind while shopping these holidays!
Robert: Do you have any other questions or concerns?
MTWiley: That's the only one I had and it's definitely the answer I wanted to hear. Thanks for everything you guys do.

Since the add does not (and will not) list a model number, just how exactly do you plan to prove to Discover that you could get one at this price?
*serious question

... since I won't be able to get in on this deal since my family Thanksgiving is Thursday and I'm pretty sure if I get there at 3PM I won't be one of the first 4 in line (the only ones getting this deal - assuming they hand out coupons like K-Mart does).

Does anyone know if this is essentially just a larger version of the 40L2200U? It's tough finding anything about input lag with gaming, or general impressions for that matter. I just want to know if my gaming and Blu-Rays are going to look awesome on this thing (if I can get my hands on it).

I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but apparently this model has direct/"full array" LED backlighting, so on paper it's an even better deal than it seemed before unless you badly need the thinner profile of an edge lit TV.

This is really tempting, especially to just get it from NewEgg and do a price protection claim, but I'm currently stuck in a hotel due to Sandy unsure when I'll be moving into a permanent apartment (whether it's my old one or a new one). I don't exactly have anywhere to put one or two of these, but they'd be perfect for refurnishing the house.

By the way, since someone implied the ad doesn't have the model number (as far as proof for price protection): It DOES have the brand and model. The unbranded TV is a different one. This Toshiba is in the last section of the scan here: http://bfads.net/Ad/Sears-Thanksgiving/Page7

If I need it in print I presume these will be in newspapers the weekend before Thanksgiving/BF? Does Chase Freedom still have price protection? If so, does anyone know where the terms are online? I figure Discover is the best bet but it's worth covering all bases.

@Stimpy

Heh, well first, I guess there's basically no chance on god's green earth this will be available during their Doorbuster preview...but I'm still going to call on Saturday and see what's up. I don't even know why I'm looking at this to be honest, because there's a very slim chance I'll be able to pick this up.

Better check how many doors at your Sears will open, and then pick the right one. People won't be happy after waiting 10 hours freezing and peeing their pants in line, and ending up like someone who chose the wrong connecting city on Amazing Race. You want to be at the door the employees let their relatives in through, I'd say, if there are only 4 Toshiba 50in per store for $300.

This sounds really good if it'll fly. Is anyone going to give it a try? I guess if Discover denied the claim for some reason we could always just return the tv for a full refund. I just went over the FAQ section of the discover price protection section on their website and it doesn't mention anything about excluding black friday sales, etc.

The one scan that was posted clearly shows the model# and price, etc so this could work. Hmmm.

i went to the store couple days ago to see if they could do a layaway and they said not BUT after some talking to the worker they said that if I got in line at a reasonable time I still had a good chance of walking out with one, if not they said they had it stocked in warehouses across america so backorders were indeed likely IF it was ordered on the thursday. so enjoy your thanksgiving dinner and get over there Smilie

I'll as the guy I talked to about that TaehoonK. Even if I can't get there for the doorbuster, that would be an awesome option.

from my limited experience these warehouses are not all created equal, so poke around sears and try to figure out if the warehouse they are connected to has a bunch of em, just open with some story about how your situation could relate to the workers and they will say "im not supposed to tell you this but ..."
